Christina Aguilera fucked up the national anthem by trying to make it her own artistic rendition, instead of singing it with the rhythm and melodies it was intended to be sung with. She can fuck off for messing it up, and deserves every bit of criticism she gets.

How about we just cuff her to a bed and punch her square in the box?

No?

How about a good swift kick? :?

The Black Eyed Peas are an awful live "band". They don't have the voices for it. The NFL should have learned that by watching their performance at the Grammys last year.

see i don't think their singing/rapping was bad...i was just bored of their lack of stage presence until the last 3 minutes. i watched again to make sure i wasn't just drunk and i say the same thing. i liked their song selection, i know theyautotuned shit live, but that's what they do...

had the first ten minutes been fun and usher's part omitted i think i would have liked it better than most.

hopefully the foo fighters next year.

The anthem doesn't have to be vanilla, but the more you mess with it the better the chance you ruin it.

The Underwood one was good, but only because she didn't twang the shit out of it. Nothing annoys me more than a country-ized classic song. Btw, our birds really liked the Underwood one too, they started making out when I played it(and they had been being dicks to each other all day) . Dirty birds.

Lastly, Avril can stick to teeny music, the BEP can stick to arena crap, and CA can keep her toons in the ghetto where they belong. Sum 41 can't sing, and I don't think punk is supposed to sing anyways.

My opinion is to let a veteran sing the anthem. They deserve the right far more than any glorified, babied pop star.

There is some good that can come out of all of this.

She could end up in Tosh.0's video redemption gag.

They already gave some girl that messed up the anthem a web redemption. And she got to sing at a Ducks game!!!

But that girl was hot and actually sang the anthem the way we're all used to hearing it and is a damn good singer.

Christina was more focused on embellishing every fucking word that came out of her mouth to get the words right.

I honestly hate when singers do that, embellish the last word in a phrase or the last two lines, not every word in the song.

Lea Michelle should have sung the anthem, she is a way better singer then CA is.

fact: the national anthem is not to be a source of entertainment. its actually disrespectful, in its original form, to use it as a form of entertainment.

simplify simplify simplify. other countries actually feel pride when they hear their national anthem. the US wants to be entertained.

they should do it like they do it in vancouver. the whole arena sings along, and sometimes, the anthem singer himself just stops and lets the crowd take over.

I disagree irony. The better it's done, the more moving it can be. Just my opinion. Although with some people you may be right.

O! say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
When our land is illumined with liberty's smile,
If a foe from within strikes a blow at her glory,
Down, down with the traitor that tries to defile
The flag of the stars, and the page of her story!
By the millions unchained,
Who their birthright have gained
We will keep her bright blazon forever unstained;
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave,
While the land of the free is the home of the brave.

Okay, but that doesn't mean that Americans don't feel a sense of pride when they hear it.

I think playing the national anthem before sporting events is kind of stupid anyways.

most probably do not. i know i dont. weve become desensitized to it, if you will.

the national anthem is NOT to be used as entertainment, and its not supposed to be played before every sporting event.

A group of troops sang the anthem at Stewart's and Colbert's rally in DC, it was really nice.
