i think that the cuts to the pro scouting, scouting, and the assistant GM position has hurt the team (i read somewhere that the assistant GM was a big reason they acquired briere), but saying this that means this team you see is the one darcy wants. Larry Quinn was a big hockey fan and though i don't like him either i do think darcy was given free range to make the team the way he wants (obviously with the break even mentality). For this reason i want darcy fired.
I also think that this new owner represents a change, breaking away from the break even mentality to a championship mentality. With this comes a GM who has won a championship, assistant GM Jim Nill of the Detroit Red Wings would be an example.
I see Darcy's poor player judgement (seeing into the future; ex kotalik over dumont, not signing orpik but trading for rivet, not resigning briere), lack of motion (tough sale on trades; reluctance to move future), and his lack of championship experience as keys to his demise. Plus when in a position to win they do not make the right moves with regier at the head.
I also think that many fans will be a hard sale of a real change if Darcy sticks around.
That all being said this up coming trade deadline will be interesting to watch, and offseason if regier lasts that long.
note the i thinks this is just my opinion and i tried to explain my reasoning.
Really dude? Let's look into Darcy's "Poor" player judgement shall we?
In 05-06, Kotalik and Dumont were both 25. They could only keep one. Kotalik's 05-06 Stats: G:25 A:37 P:62 Dumont's 05-06 Stats: G:20 A:20 P:40 Now, I know that Dumont played 28 less games than Kotalik, but I'm pretty sure that you would take Kotalik over Dumont too back in 2006. Not signing Orpik? How in the world do you know if Darcy even tried to sign him? Orpik is obviously a good defenseman, and he got resigned by Pittsburgh. Don't you think that a couple of teams gave him offers? Not signing Briere? They could only keep one of them, and Darcy wanted Drury over Briere, Drury went to the Rangers, and Briere wanted to go to the Flyers after he found out that they weren't going to sign him. Tough sale on trades and reluctance to move future? Are you kidding? How in the fuckin world do you know if Darcy is trying to aquire a star player? How?! Yes, Moore, Bernier, and Torres didn't turn out great on our teams, but Moore had 41points before coming over to Buffalo, and he didn't even have a salary over 1m. I'm pretty sure you would take him. Torres had 19 goals coming to Buffalo, which led our team. Bernier had 23 points before coming to Buffalo, and he was on the 3rd and 4th line in San Jose. Now, I know that Darcy isn't the greatest GM, but hammering him with all of this negativity is just wrong.
