My brief thoughts.

1. That was a dickbag move by whoever it was on the Isles to sucker punch a guy already injured and on the ice in the back of the head.

2. I find it amusing that when Peters went after Emery, there was all kinds of outrage because "skaters aren't supposed to fight goalies'. However, it seems to be perfectly acceptable for Haley to do it.

3. Godard cannot leave the bench there. You just can't do it. BJ can handle himself against some rookie. Let someone on the ice handle it. Godard isn't a premier player, but the big suspension he just earned doesn't help the team any.

EDIT 4. That sucker punch on Talbot sure as hell better get 4 games or more.

EDIT 5. Why were they playing 'Shipping up to Boston' on Long Island ? Weird.

I think I really enjoyed this week in hockey. Four teams I hate beat the shit out of each other.

In my opinion if the goalie wants to go let him fight. The difference was that Peters was a fighter. I don't know Haley but he didn't look like a heavyweight and Johnson looked comfortable on his own.

Peters kinda jumped in and egged it on himself as this one seemed to be Johnson all the way saying "fuck you let's go".

Uh, what? Johnson was nowhere NEAR the brawl. He was at his own end of the ice standing there. Haley skated the length of the ice and started yelling at Johnson, who then certainly obliged him.

Johnson certainly did not instigate that fight.

Regardless, the criticism of Peters at the time was that no skater should ever fight a goalie. Ever. Haley is getting a free pass for doing the exact same thing.

Not even gonna give my opinion because I know that by default it is wrong.

Didn't Emery have a bit of a boxing background to? Not saying its right or wrong for Petey to go after a goalie, but Emery is a pretty big dude and I swore I heard he had a bit of a boxing background, so maybe Emery wanted a shot at a goon? lol... not to sure if I like goalies getting into it in anyway... But in the Petey instance, maybe Emery wanted a lil piece of him too?

I didn't have a problem myself with Peters and Emery fighting. They were both willing participants. However, plenty of people around the boards and in the media ripped him hard for it as something you don't do.

Should someone fight the goalie? No. Did Johnson gabber jaw, come out of the crease and drop his gloves? Yes. He was willing and then a guy from his team jumped in....not okay. I watch the replay and see something different than Johnson hanging out at his goal minding his own business.

To me, it doesn't appear that Johnson had any ideas about jumping into the fracas until Haley came and challenged him.

Ok, if you never fight a goalie ever, what happens when you yell at the goalie and he drops his gloves? do you skate away and act like it never happened?

Let me clarify my position then. Something's getting mixed up here.

1. I don't have a problem with a skater an a goaltender fighting. If they're both willing participants, then go for it.

2. I find it interesting that Peters was crucified for fighting Emery, but Haley isn't taking any flak for fighting Johnson. To be 100% clear, I didn't have a problem with Peters/Emery, and didn't think Peters deserved any grief for it.

3. I don't think that Johnson would have gone down the ice looking for a fight. Haley skated down and challenged him, so he went. If nobody comes down the ice and challenges him, I don't think Johnson fights last night.

my position is this: fuck haley.

if you remember, emery took down biron with ease. then biron, while down, yanked on emerys pad, causing him to fall. they both got up, and peters skated in and took emery to the wall and the fight began. emery could have handled peters just fine, but thats not the point. peters engaged emery, not the other way around. secondly, say what you emerys fighting history, hes a good fighter. laila ali could kick my ass, but i still wouldnt hit her because im a guy and you dont hit girls. its a rule. just like a skater doesnt fight a goalie. also, the equipment. that equipment is made for 1 reason: stopping pucks. nothing else. ever wonder why goalies get hurt often when run? because the equipment isnt made to handle human contact well. its also restrictive. thats why its also illegal to hit them. the point is, a goalies job is to stop pucks, thats it. if he wants to fight another goalie, go for it.

the exception to the goalie vs skater rule is if the goalie engages the skater. if thats the case, then thats what it is. and if that happens, a skater from the goalies team BETTER intervene.
