He didn't get attacked, he got challenged and accepted the challenge. He could've refused. He didn't. Instead he chirped from his zone until someone took notice. Plain and simple.

Johnson fucking accepted the challenge. Back away if you think you're going to get your ass beat. Don't defend Johnson; he clearly wanted a fight. If Miller or Lalime dropped their equipment for a skater I would say go right ahead and fight.

Exactly. I don't understand why there is even a discussion about it. Now for the other player jumping in, that is a totally different story. That was complete bullshit.

Haley's (not Bailey) quote when asked if Johnson called him out:

Quote:
No, I don't know. Honestly, right now it's a blur. It just happened.

So far you got Letang saying Haley challenged Johnson, and Haley himself saying Johnson didn't call him out. So I guess one has to beleive that Haley skated all the way there to fight Johnson and not the other way around? I mean those guys were on the ice, they should know.

Brent Johnson:

Quote:
I was (surprised to see Haley) coming at me," Johnson said. "I was outside the scrum because our guy got hit, and he just came down. I don't know.

Johnson still could've turtled and drawn what would likely be a double minor for roughing at least. He didn't.

Well that would be gay as balls, and on TV? If Miller ever gets challenged by a skater I want to see 2 things:

1. Miller accepts.

2. Somebody immediately steps in for Miller and commences to whoop some ass.

seriously, you can trace this back to rick dipietro... then you can trace it back to matt cooke. everyone involved was being a jagoff. especially haley though. not for fighting johnson, for hitting tangradi high then punching him on the ground.

Well I am looking forward to see who gets suspended tonight. I hope that ass Gillies get a few games. Starting to punch a guy who got hurt and is on the ice for no reason to just beat on someone deserves some extra punishment

that was matt martin, not gillies. and it was a retaliation for some blindside hit talbot threw on blake comeau last week (comeau hasn't played since).

There are only three players who are facing supplemental discipline and it's Konopka, Martin, and Gillies - two plugs and a call-up.

Hailey's skating down the ice. Johnson comes out and accepts the challenge. JOHNSON ACCEPTED THE FIGHT.

Right...and? Do you seriously want a grown man to cower and puss out on TV? The challenging part is the bad part. Now if the goalie pursues the skater and starts the whole thing then thats different! From all on ice accounts including Haley himself, Johnson wasn't looking for a fight, he simply didn't back down from one that was presented to him. And when you see that happen to your goalie, and you don't go in there to intervene, then you're even more wrong. Kind of like how the Sens did nothing while Emery fought Peters. Goalies are at a disadvantage and they are the most important players on the ice, and the most difficult to replace.

Most goalies don't have hardly any hollow at all, and even keep their blades kind of dull so they can slide easier. So it's A LOT tougher to keep their balance when standing in there to fight. They also aren't typically experienced at it at all, due to the fact that goalies never need to fight at all through the hockey ranks. I also imagine that their leg and should pads would hinder movement considerably. In short, they are more valuable then other players, more susceptible to injury, and typically much less experienced. It's like a pitcher trying to hit.

If it's goalie vs. goalie then rock on. If the goalie completely insists on starting a fight with a skater then that's different too.

Wow so in Haley's first NHL game he gives a guy a concussion by elbowing him to the head, then beats him while he's down, gloats over him while the team physician attends to him, and fights a goalie.

I see a bright future in the fast food industry for that young man, the NHL doesn't need to suspend him, he will ruin himself just fine. Can't wait to see how many Sabres he puts on the Dl 2mrw. ;(

I don't have an issue with Johnson fighting Haley, just with Godard and Johnson DPing Haley.

goalies are also pretty top heavy. its alot easier to get knocked over because of it. the arms of chest protectors are also very bulky, and the inner elbow even has additional padding, that really limit mobility of the elbow.

you dont get much movement in this equipment. especially not when fighting.

ME too, only when she deserves it though, hahaha.

Out of all of this, the only thing that really bothered me was that scumbag Gillies throwing a flying elbow to the head of a defenseless player who wasn't even playing for the pens until being called up the week before. After his charging elbow to the head from behind he the proceeds to beat the guy in the face when he is CLEARLY woozy and unable to defend himself. Then the guy stands at the door talking shit to the kid while he's fucked up on the ice with the trainer tending to him. Super classy

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but some of the boys who were involved in all this mess last night may not be in the line up for tomorrow. TSN is saying the league is trying to put a rush on things before Monday and were supposed to have a hearing today from the team hotel in Buffalo.
