I'm not sure I can subscribe to any clutch theories, it just reeks of an excuse. If two goalies after 60 games have the same GAA, same wins, have faced the same # of shots, and one has a .923, and the other has a .901, it just sounds weak trying to say that one guy is better, because he was making more 'clutch' saves than the other. His win/loss(or some other stat) would indicate his true clutch power. I could be wrong, but it just sounds weak.

Oh, well I think someone basing a goalie on stats alone is a weak argument.

lemme keep digging.

The point is you have an apple to compare to an apple, if both teams are similar with stats. Trying to say one guy is better than another guy when the heat is on is harder to prove.

I understand. I didn't mean to say that Miller's clutch performances compensate for when he plays poorly. I was just trying to convey that stats don't tell the whole story, and looking at a goaltender's stats alone can usually be very misleading.

You know better than this. The minute you win a Vezina, you're going to have to back it up. It's no different than other teams being up extra for playing the cup champs.

Nevermind. Miller's "meltdown" can be heard here. WGR's interview was about a minute long, but here is the interview in its entirety:

He's getting really upset with John Vogl. Poor Ryan, I feel bad. :(

No, I'm just saying that if he slips, it's going to be noticed.

Ew, don't compare Ryan Miller to Jim Carey!

I guess. He was just frustrated and it's in his nature to be blunt and call out people in his interviews. I guess you could call it a meltdown though. Wish there would have been some f-bombs dropped though, now THAT would have been a nice meltdown. ;)

This one just made me feel sad.

Miller snapped at John Vogl after a seemingly innocent question, ripped Jerry Sullivan a new one, and exchanged F bombs with Sullivan in front of a bunch of kids.

Exhibit B: Tim Thomas , 2009-2010

This Miller rage is downright stupid. He's just played 30+ games in a row after starting the year with a hip injury that might have ended his season. Has anyone stopped to consider that hip just might still be bothering him a little bit?

Miller needs to play better.
The defense needs to play better.
Lindy needs to stop playing miller for 6 month stretches.
Darcy needs to get a backup goaltender in here that Lindy trusts to start once in a while.

There's a lot of blame to go around. Piling all the shit in Miller's lap is laughable.

Miller may have been pissed at Vogl unfairly, but Sullivan? Good for him. He's a fuckstick. He'll write his snarky ass articles in the paper, but he rarely shows his face in the locker room to let the players question him back.

If someone talked shit about how you did your job in the media, when they had no clue how to do it, wouldn't you get pissed after a while? I know that it comes with the territory as a pro athlete, but I'll take the side of the players here.

I agree with just about all you said, but to be fair to T. Thomas, he had to split the season with Rask. That can be hard on any goalie, Vezina or not.

To be clear, I'm not taking Miller's or TBN's side in that exchange. Just summarizing what's in that post.

He split the season with Rask because of his play. He didn't play enough to keep the starting job.

Not saying Miller was right to drop f-bombs in front of kids, but it was dumb to take a group of kids in there while he was being interviewed by the media after a 7-6 loss.

And Jerry Sullivan is a jackass, for the record. Always has been.

That's debatable, because he's not a Bills qb. Haha. ...but that logic, Miller should have split the season with his backup this year(and that way we would have never seen our big comeback). I know Lalime is not Rask, but it doesn't make it any less fair to Thomas.

Sports reporters/journalists often become very entitled and pompous... I understand that they need to ask tough questions sometimes and as a fan I appreciate that, but there needs to be a line of respect that is drawn when they speak to the athletes. They need to remember that the athletes are the sole reason that they have a job, and it's not the other way around.
