Two Eastern Conference teams will battle Sunday to end their current losing streaks. One will begin a win streak, while the other continues its descent.

For the Sabres, the past week has not gone so well. They lost a season series to the Islanders last Sunday in overtime, defeated the Canadiens Tuesday in overtime, opened a six-game homestand Wednesday with an embarrassing loss to the Maple Leafs, and failed to show life in a shutout loss to the Blues Friday. Four points out of the playoff picture with 2 games ahead of the Hurricanes for the eighth seed, the Sabres will seek to right ship and salvage its homestand.

For the home team, it is they who triumph. Both Sabres and Capitals have won a game against each other at home this season.

This game will also be important to the Sabres. It is the last under soon-to-be former owners Tom Golisano and Larry Quinn. The sale of the team to Terry Pegula will be complete Tuesday.
