Popular wisdom seems to indicate Darcy will be gone after this year is done. While I'm sure this would make all the Darcy-haters very happy, there is that pesky little detail of replacing him with somebody who can improve the team.
Who is that person going to be, and why is he better than Darcy?
(rampant speculation encouraged!)

Excellent! And what will you do, Mr. Wozniak, as General Manager of the Sabres? Will you be changing or implementing any policies in your first week of office?

Based entirely on speculation. If Pegula sees that players in Lindy's system aren't buying into it, he may offer the General Managers seat to Lindy and find a new coach. Lindy would fit the bill nice for that type of position, he knows the players and can get types of players we need. Lindy would bring in a coaches viewpoint, which I don't think Darcy has right now.

How about an ex-player, especially one who has coached teams before?

If you haven't guessed, I'm talking about Ruff.

I don't know if he should go..It is known in the hockey world that Darcy was dealt a bad hand right off the bat.John Rigas drove the Sabres into a large ditch nothing he could do there but chop the best team the Sabres ever put on the ice just not to see the whole organization buckle..

Wile Tom Golisano is a great business man and should be raised to the rafters just for keeping this team in Buffalo,he is mainly a business man and would not roll the dice and sink money into this team.

Darcy had to deal with Quinn that would not give him money for nothing and even getting rid of most of the scouting for a more "high tech" form of scouting that is proving to suck ass..

Darcy hasn't been a total failure,I'd like to see what he and Ruff can do with proper resources..

Woah, the scouting has not been proven to suck ass, many of these picks you see him making, Kassian, Foligno, Myers, Adam, Ennis, are all because of video scouting.

It works, you can watch more games on tape than in person, I don't see any problem watching tape on hundreds of CHL players and players around the world.

Is that all that the Scouting department did? Scout for draft picks? I had always thought that they also "scouted" opposing teams, keeping an eye on their players' play in general, knowing their weaknesses & tendancies. This would keep Buffalo up-to-date for both games and possible trades.

Did I have it wrong all this time??

although i would love to have lindy as GM, i dont know if i can agree with this method of getting him there. if pegula sees that the players arent buying into his system and makes him GM, dont you think if lindy really believes in that system so much, that he would look for a coach with a similar style? i could be completely wrong, but that was my initial thought after reading this.

I figured the coach would do the scouting on the other teams and implement a style change or a different play style to beat them, but honestly, In have no idea either?

It's not all based on Regier picking the players. It's the scouts having input on most of these picks. I highly doubt Regier has sat their for hours and hours watching CHL games. I would like Pegula to bring back the scouting department and have scouts at actual games and maybe expand the video scouting alittle more.

True but it is a pretty good assumption since GM's have several other duties to attend too

There's a few young up and comers out there, with a desire to make a name for themselves as a GM. It may be time for a managerial youth movement up in Buffalo, I have high hopes for this team this season. Don't let me down Darcy.

Jim Nil has been an assistant GM with the Red Wings for 13 seasons, so he knows what time it is.

I think the best person for the GM or atleast Assistant GM job would be Danny Gare, he's been great on the few pregames he's done, he's got a great knowledge of the the game, and the types of players who work well together, and he's well respected throughout the city, and the league as well. He'd be my first choice. My second choice would be...dare I say it...Ken Hitchcock, say what you want, he's been a pretty decent coach, and is a players type guy. He's respected, and has a history of developing younger players into stars. Could be a solid GM given the right opportunity.

I agree I met Danny Gare when he was in town for Wayne Gretzky's Fantasy Camp a year ago and what a great guy. We were talking Sabres Hockey the whole time.

I know. Gare is such a great guy. I have an opportunity to chat with him for about 10 mins a while ago, and he's just a brilliant hockey mind, with a strong knowledge of the game. I think he'd be a great character to have in our front office somewhere

I couldn't agree more. I would even take Mike Robitaille as well. Either one would be great choice.

I like Roby a lot, but not as GM. Besides, Roby knows that being GM would cut into his drinking way too much!
