I was going through the photos from todays game... all I have to say is ... this photo is awkward....

Pegula is standing by Rivet's empty spot... and his pads and skates are still there... woops.

I was thinking the same thing. But then again, he is still part of the team until he isn't.

I so just sounded like Captain Obvious

Yeah, noon is the end of the waiver period. Bob McKenzie is usually pretty diligent about commenting on players once that ends.

Rivet cleared.

My guess is a buyout, but that's just a guess. Others have predicted Portland.

For anyone who didn't see it, Rivet cleared waivers when his waiver period ended.

Sorry Craig, you may have wanted a trade, but no one even wanted you for the mere prorated cost of your contract.

Who knows. My guess is he stays for now.

#Sabres will assign captain Craig Rivet to Portland, then will place him on re-entry waivers tomorrow. #Buffalo #NHL

He stays with Buffalo assuming he clears re-entry waivers.

I smell a buyout coming.

Not sure why, but I can't see him opting for Portland. Although I think he really could help the kids out down there, I think it could be a case of him being too proud to take a demotion like that.

I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Now wait a minute; waivers claims means that teams take him at full price, and reentry waivers means teams can claim him at half price?

I thought it was half price both ways? One of Pierre Lebrun's tweets is confusing me.

Waivers = Full price
Re-entry = half price.

You are correct. Regular waivers means the claiming team takes on his entire remaining salary and cap hit. Re-entry waivers means the waiving team and the claiming team split his salary and cap hit.

When you get claimed off of waivers it the full price, but on re-entry waivers its half price.

I'm predicting that they do the Portland assignement / re-entry waivers to give him one more chance to catch on with another team. If they still don't get any bites, they'll waive him again and buy him out.

Seems like they're being more than fair in trying to give him a chance to play somewhere.

So now the question is, if be stays in buffalo, do we buy him out or let him stay in the players box.

Agreed Tom. If he wanted a trade to maybe go place elsewhere and Regier didn't think anyone would even trade for him, waiving him and then putting him on re-entry waivers is the best bet. I had hoped he would accept assignment to Portland to be a great mentor to the kids on their Calder Cup run, but I think he has way too much pride to do that.

The re-entry / half price method was new in the current CBA. Didn't exist before then.
