I'm not the only member here on this board that wants Connolly gone. I'm just sick of watching this guy turn the puck over consistently. I would rather have a second rounder for him and bring in a fresh face in the summer thru free agency. I'm looking at Pegula's 3 year plan. This isn't building a Cup winner keeping Connolly. This team if they make the playoffs isn't going far and if you believe they will then you need your head examined.

You've said this at least 10 times in the last 3 days, no lie, this is getting old.

A lot of people wanted him gone. He wasn't traded. He will be gone in the summer.

Big fucking deal.

Exactly, but this is it for Connolly. My thinking is that Connolly is going to run the 2nd PP unit now:

Top PP:

Stafford-Vanek-Boyes
Leopold-Pomminville

2nd unit:

Connolly-McCormick-Ennis
Sekera-Myers

He needs to start putting up some power play points, that's his bread and butter. If he can't elevate his game for the rest of this season and into the playoffs well then he must not like playing in BUffalo and he should be accommodated.

Although I agree that he needs to step up his PowerPlay production, he is 3rd on the team in powerplaypoints behind Stafford and Vanek.

What the fuck are people whining about? Darcy was not going to revamp the entire roster today.

I really don't see many people whining. I'm not going ape shit over a player that is extremely streaky, so shoot me. I hope he stays on the hot streak he is currently on but only time will tell

Connolly will be gone this offseason. It's just no one wanted him and can you blame them? Once he's gone it'll look like this:

Vanek-Roy-Stafford
Ennis-Boyes-Pominville
etc.

I know right? I don't understand what some fans want, they just aren't clear with their intent. Some want to burn it all down to the ground and rebuild but then they would complain during the years of bottom 5 finishes. Some want to go for it all right now but they complain because the future is sacrificed. What Darcy did was strengthen the team for this season, and strengthen it for seasons to come. Boyes has scored 40 goals in a season, that's a short assed list to be on. He's got good talent. People should be excited about this move.

He did what he could. Dumping all the pending UFA would have been nice, but as was evidenced today, there wasn't a huge market for the players of the same caliber we have here.

He got a guy for this year and next. Helps them on a playoff run this year if they can get in, and keeps a decent piece for next year to fill in with some kids and free agents.

Not sure what else people wanted out of today.

Top players traded during the last week...

Chris Stewart - 19g 18a 37pts
Dustin Penner - 21-18-39
Blake Wheeler - 12-18-30
James Neal - 21-18-39
Kris Versteeg - 14-21-35
Scottie Upshall - 11-16-27
Niclas Bergfors - 11-18-29
Mike Fisher - 15-13-28

Brad Boyes stands at 12g 29a for 41 pts. Boyes actually has the most points of any of the bigger names traded the last few weeks.

Not good enough. Vanek is among the top 15 in the NHL in PPP, Connolly has to be in the top 20 as well. He's got some liabilities, but when he has room to use his skill he HAS GOT to make up for it. If a guy like that isn't producing a shit load of PPP then what are you playing him for? Yeah he's missed a few games but he still needs to be at least 30% more productive points wise. I don't think that's asking too much.

Lindy thinks Boyes is a better winger than center and he'll start him as winger, maybe that's why they didn't trade Connolly for a low price.

He thought Neidermeyer might compliment a scoring line too, but I don't mind the experimentation, Boyes sucks at draws anyways. Sooner or latter he will play center, but whatever works is fine with me. If he wants to try making a player wear snow shoes and stand on top of the net singing Total Eclipse of the Heart that's fine, as long as the results are good. He's got a good feel for when to make changes, he knows when it's not a good fit.

At the end of the day, in my opinion, the Sabres had the best trade deadline out of any team.

Not a bad day. Very pleased.

THIS!!!! Gave up little... got a guy who will be around this year and next.... a guy who may thrive with a change of scenery... a replacement for at least one UFA... and a guy who at one point put up 40 goals... if he can even pull 30 next year its a huge win...

I know Lindy says he sees him more on the wing, but I have a hunch he will be a 1/2 C by the start of next season... unless Darcy pulls something wild off in the off season.... which i dont expect...

It seems to me that starting off as a winger on a new team might be a tad easier (simpler?) than jumping in at center. Especially since you haven't been PLAYING as center in who knows how long...

Of course I might be full of it too seeing as I've never played.

As per TBN:

After saying how excited he was about playing an hour away from his home town, Boyes said
Quote:
That part aside, I’m looking forward to getting to a team that’s going to be in the playoffs, that plays the way that they do and in city that -- they love their hockey here.

The former 43-goal scorer is pleased to join a team that tries to play an up-tempo style.

"It’s definitely a lot more my style than it was in St. Louis," he said. "That’s good. If guys have skill and talent, let them use them. It’s important to let guys do that because that’s the reason they got here in the first place."
