God this judge is a mother fucking genius. I mean he's right. Interracial children are fucking doomed. It's not like a half black half white boy raised by his single white mother would ever have a chance at succeeding in life. I mean certainly that child could never grow up to be the President of the United States. It would just be impossible........................ Only a person of one race can be President...
His comment that the children wouldn't be accepted by the majority of their peers of each racial background/ethnicity is true. Statistically this occurs. I would ask in what world is that statistic reasonable cause to deny marriage and essentially a life because of that though? To this judge if the parents aren't married then they won't have those kids (also idiotic). This also assumes that the interracial child is a pariah for life... which is false. His proactive stance of preventing interracial children from being procreated is bullshit. He's sparing the child from suffering? Bullshit. That is some messed up thinking.
Onto NYI agreeing with the judge.

No, it's not. It's actually a factual statement. And you can construe it to be a racist opinion all day if you'd like. When the facts change, so will my opinion.
No it is racist, ignorant, and not very factual. Here's a fact: Native Americans as a population have a higher percentage of genetic markers found that are linked to alcoholism. Here is a racist ignorant remark: Native Americans should not be sold alcohol because they'll become alcoholics. It's based off of a fact! BUT it's not a fact.
Here's a fact: Interracial couples have a higher rate of divorce than the average of all couples of the same race/ethnicity (ie black/black, white/white, asian/asian, hispanic/hisapnic, etc etc). Here's what the judge said:
Quote:
Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.
...
"I don't do interracial marriages because I don't want to put children in a situation they didn't bring on themselves," Bardwell said. "In my heart, I feel the children will later suffer."
What we have here is an opinion based on a fact.
That however, does not make the opinion fact. The opinion is racist though. Why is it? Read on.
From what he's stated the divorce rates warrant to denial of service. First it implies there is an acceptable standard for divorce rates among a demographic to weigh the worthiness of another against. There is not.
Second the best source for interracial marriage statistics is over a decade old. It's not very reliable/current. It is however the most heavily referenced report written by the CDC (it's by the feds so you know it's expensive and late/out of date) on the subject.
http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/series/sr_23/sr23_022.pdf From the CDC report the "disruption" (divorce or separation) rates after 10 years for interracial couples stands at 41%. For black only couples, the divorce rate is 47%. These statistics deal with first marriages only. So by the judges "sound" logic black people shouldn't be allowed to marry. BUT WAIT! He says it himself that he issues marriage licenses to black couples. Contradiction much?NYIntensity wrote:
FWIW - A judge or minister can deny marrying you if they don't see fit. This JP just decided to say why; or the couple decided they wanted to make their grievance public.
That doesn't mean the grounds are legit in this case. In this case they aren't even close to being legal. The denial was made purely on race and not on the character of the people involved. Which is why when people call this racist they aren't out of line. His decision was purely race based. Also XC isn't crazy when he stated the judge implies the parents are inferior parents. It's implied and not hard to see when you read between the lines.
Oh and I know, "well one of the people is white so how can it be racist!?" Yes because during the African-American civil rights movement the murders of black and white civil rights workers in the south weren't racially motivated. There was a white person there! So it wasn't racist...... /endsarcasm
More than anything the divorce rates research should examine cross cultural marriages and not so much interracial ones. I think you would find that a difference in cultural values will rock a marriages foundation more than one purely based on race. I am Korean, raised by 2 white parents, and my values are very different from my Korean friends who were raised by their biological parents.
My values reflect the environment I was raised in, not my race or ethnicity.
