Ok I may sound horrible for this but I have watched this whole story develop and have come to one conclusion....

I think the dad set it up.

Listen to how he talks, and listen to his interview on CNN. When asked "Why didn't you come out when you heard them calling your name?" (the kid said he HAD heard them calling) he said something to the affect of "I wasn't supposed to because dad said not to" (or something close to that)

If you listen to the dad...it's not just shock...He sounds like a real nut that wants media attention.

I mean he calls the FAA first instead of calling the local police? Who really knows the FAA's number in a panic like this?

Just saying it sounds fishy.

I called that as soon as I saw the original story.

What little kid hasn't hid like that at some point? I mean, really.

There definitely is something not right with this story...a lot of inconsistencies with the story. It's just bizarre...and I really don't see why it's making headline news still. The camera crew should have packed their things as soon as they found out the kid was hiding in a box the entire time.

The family released a home video of the balloon being "accidently" untethered. I mean, come on...
