Or is it the Buffalo fans? I haven't been to a game in Buffalo in over ten years, and I gotta say, this year games in Buffalo are so quiet you can hear a pin drop. The organist will play the "let's go Buffalo" chords, and you'll hear almost nothing from the fans, a scattering of murmured 'let's go Buffalo" chants in response. What the hell folks? I know that their home record hasn't been that impressive, but still... Saturday's game at the Air Canada Centre was loud and ruckus. Then the next day in HSBC, it sounded like most of the crowd was asleep. I know Buffalo fans have more to cheer about than Leaf fans, so why are they so much louder? Do we need to get rid of the organist? I certainly think that the whole "Da, da...da, da, da. Let's go Buffalo" thing is as stale as 5 year old bread. Would some changes help? What's it gonna take to get those fans excited?

I agree. When they came out here I went to see them play the Avs and when I watched the game again at home the Sabres fans that went to that game sounded louder than when I watch home games. New owner, playoff fight and some great hockey...

Why you not cheer Buff fans?

Interesting you guys say this, I had a bunch of friends who were critical of the noise levels this season said the crowd was noticeably pumped on Sunday.

The crowd was better than most, but still kinda dull at some points. Sabertooth had to try to start the wave at least 5 or 6 times before it finally got going. First time I've seen the wave at the arena for 3 or 4 years. I think it will get better. I nearly lost my voice on sunday trying to lead by example. haha.

I don't know about Sunday in particular. I have noticed though, since I always have to listen to the other team's announcing crew...(FUCK YOU DISH NETWORK!!!!) that they comment on how dead it has been. I hear it quite a lot actually and it's strange that with everything that has happened that fans aren't going bananas each game.

i have noticed certain tv stations turn down the crowd volume. MSG appears to be one of those. on the other hand, CBC always seems to turn it up. maybe HSBC doesnt have alot of mics on the glass, i dunno.

Maybe by the end of the game they were pumped. But early in the game, even when Buffalo was ahead, it was dead as a funeral home. It shouldn't take 5 or 6 goals to get the crowd into it IMO though. And, yeah, I'm posting this now, but really I've noticing it all season long.

Sabres fans are cynical. A lot of them are doubtful this surge is gonna go anywhere. It's gonna take a lot to break em out of it.

No it's been pretty damn quiet. I think the rally towels are part of an initiative to change that. Give the place a playoff atmosphere every night. Or at least tonight. It'll be fun. I remember they gave the crowd here at school towels for the Canisius-Niagara basketball game, and it was nuts. They gave us free glow sticks to wave about during introductions. Idk if the latter would be a great idea when half of this sell out crowd will probably be shitfaced, but it was cool and got the crowd into it. Rally towels are definitely a good idea.

Don't do that. I thought the scoreboard fell again or something and that the game would be cancelled tonight.

from TV it sounds more lively since Mr. Pegula took over, but I'd like to hope that there is another level of excitement to be heard. i can't speak for days after a Steeler game.

the scoreboard fell in november of 1996. there was just a gaping hole where it used to be for most of the remainder of the season.

I know about that, I lived in Buffalo then. I just don't get the connection. Is he saying loud fans would be so unusual it would be like the time the jumbotron fell?

No, the title of the thread. HSBC is broken sounds like ......well....HSBC is broken.
