What if the NHL made an automatic, structured suspension system, rather than trying to grade the intent on each hit and award suspensions accordingly?
A game misconduct penalty for a hit to the head will automatically result in a 4 game suspension.
For each additional suspendible infraction after that, the amount of games will double.
First 4, second 8, third 16, so on and so fourth.
Any player suspended will have an opportunity to plea his case to a BOARD OF APPEALS... NOT ONE PERSON... in which case they will convene and determine if a shortening or elimination of a suspension is warranted.
Yep, pretty much what I want too see too. The first time offender stuff is so stupid. Hang the guilty with the innocent, if it's a headshot it's 10 games, and doubled from there for each infraction. Head shots would be eliminated in a year, guaranteed. Then you start eliminating kneeing, elbowing, and boarding. next thing you know everybody is playing hockey again.
