Well, by definition, lower supply creates higher demand. If they can get the arena to seat around 17k, and have ticket demand of 20k every night, they'll be in perfect shape.

That's what I'm saying - expand it to 17K or 18K and it's fine.

well, the MTS centre could raise the roof, whats the timeline of such a project to be finished? i mean, it would need to be done during the offseason, so 3 months. that doesnt seem possible.

i like my narrowing the seats idea :)

Thanks Tom. That was the best explanation I could have heard about this. That article just confused me.

When they raised the Saddle dome roof, I believe it was right fter the playoffs one spring, and the Flames had something like a 15-20 day road trip the start of the next because the construction wasn't finished. It would take some time, but with newer buildings as well as technology (even in the last 5-10 years) it may not be too long of a task.

Edit: They were also doing other renovations which held up the reopening of the building.

Yeah, I've been looking for the page I had seen it as well and all I'm finding is general ino about the renovations from th 94-95 era, but nothn dealing with the roof. I was sure they had raised it. Or maybe I'm thinking they did and only had issues with the roof leaking or something during the same time as the reno? I'll have to dig deeper on this because now it is starting to drive me...

I have a cousin out in Calgary who would know. I'll drop him a line when I get home from work.

ok, here it is.

the saddledome roof wasnt raised. the renovation actually cut out portions of the lower bowl, and extended the second bowl down. (which is why when watching a flames game, the camera appears so close. the first row of the second bowl is probably among the best in the NHL.)

in fact, they actually reduced capacity with the renovations.

You beat me to it, Mike.

I just got off the phone with my cousin and he mentioned some of the things you found out. Turns out my uncle was on one of the crews during the reno. I was partly right in my comments about the roof and the seats, though...

They were replacing some of the seats in the top upper bowl during the remodeling process as they were pretty old and funky. They encountered some issues with the roof leaking, which slowed the installation of the seats so they had to do some work to the roof. (I knew it had something to do with the roof)

Not exactly a source I can share a link to, but word of mouth is pretty reliable.

I'm going to bring this thread back from the dead and plop this here...

So, Jobing.com Arena as an AHL building? Thoughts?

hulsizer makes major concession to move sale forward.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=6242084

this is what was at the heart of the lawsuit, so i guess itll be removed. if so, the yotes remain in arizona.

Unbelievable. What makes him so determined to keep the team there?

why are the thrashers still in atlanta? why are the hurricanes in north carolina?

who knows, but it appears this stalemate is ending, and likely ending with the yotes staying put. but we shall see.

I don't blame Glendale for trying to keep a team there. That makes perfect sense.

I don't understand why Hulsizer is hanging around this long, and making this massive concession, to pick up a team that will be pissing away money for years. That part just doesn't make sense.

completely agree. and heres what i think is the real downer. they are putting together a pretty good team together that no one is noticing, and if they were in a place where people cared about hockey, they could take the next step.

i agree, the plug should be pulled. but it looks like hockey is staying in glendale.
