That's everyone's opinion.

It takes time for AHL call-ups to adjust, and a few stints for a game or two isn't enough. It took Gerbe some games last season and the first 40+ this season, and now he's proving some value. If Mancari keeps improving, even if he levels off soon, he could fill in adequately at 3rd line RW and bring something to the PP with his shot or as a big body in front of the crease. I'd still want more, but not much more for a 850k-1 ml contract.

The guy is 25, if he hasn't been able to crack the lineup in his first 5 years, why is now any different?

Because he hasn't been given a fair shot you see. Don't you understand? 4 training camps where you can't beat out anyone on the roster (which includes one year that he held out) ISN'T ENOUGH TIME ?!?!?

I'm not saying he hasn't been given a FAIR shot. Any call-up (a player that isn't a blue chip high draftee, but still has some skills) is going to need time to adjust to NHL speed and talent level. Is that not right, for the most part? IMO, a game here or there (seven games for Mancari over 2-3 years before this season) does not equal enough time to adjust. Maybe other reasons made his seven sporadic games fair (attitude?). Regardless, he's had that time now and we're seeing some impact out of him.

The same can be said for almost any minor leaguer that isn't a high draft pick just getting ready for an inevitable NHL career, or a career NHLer that has been on the down swing. Maybe he'll keep improving or maybe he'll flatten out and be useless..IDK, but only watching him play in the NHL will determine that. A lot of other players, especially those brought through the Sabres organization, have been given more time than Mancari to sink or swim.

You know what, I really don't think it is. Training camp is a much different animal than the regular season. That's my opinion. I don't think he stayed here long enough to develop any chemistry with the guys. I don't think he's great, but maybe that's because I don't believe he's had enough of a chance at regular season play.

Not accusing you of that, but it's been the common refrain for the last 4 seasons every time Mancari's name has come up.

He's had shots. He hasn't taken them. He held out for one of those camps for shits's sake. Who HOLDS OUT in his situation trying to make the team?

He's played decent this time up, but he still seems half a step behind everyone else on the ice to me.

I don't agree with this. I think that's taking it too far.

Mancari has shown recently that he's far more willing than Kotalik ever was to mix things up. He goes into the boards with more reckless abandon than Ales ever did. And lastly, I think Mancari is better with the puck on his stick than Kotalik was.

Mark still has a lot of growing to do, for sure. But I think this call up has been relatively glistening... with hope. He may be onto something.

he was a 7th round pick. any games he plays, and any production he gives the sabres is just gravy.

mancari is lookin good. better then he usually does. i like what hes bringing right now.

"The more you play, the more you understand," Gerbe said. "When you're first coming into the league, the game is so fast and you think too much. When you do less thinking and react more to the play, you play more to your style."

This was from TBN in regard to Gerbe's play, but it applies here.

No it doesn't, Mancari has played in 5 training camps and multiple preseason games. He should have been adjusted to the NHL game 3 years ago if he is or was ever going to make an impact.

He played in NHL games before, so he knew what he had to do.

WHAT!?!?!

Gerbe played 10 games in 08-09, another 10 games in 09-10, and 40+ games this season without adjusting. He's only produced near expectations now after 60 some games in the NHL, so how can you say it doesn't apply to Mancari when he's only got 28 NHL games under his belt????

Fail.

Traditionally, Mancari starts falling away at around this point in a call-up. Let's see how he does tonight.

He played 7 games in 08-09, and 6 in 09-10. He's never been up this long, and he's produced more over the last few games. Not that he's bound for solid production, but he shouldn't be disappearing either.

He's still not a kid, unlike others who came up over him.

He is our oldest call-up and can't make the team out of camp this long. I'm not opposed to him being on the third line though, but he'll never be anything else.

A 3rd line winger and a cannon of a shot is pretty good for a 7th round pick.
