This was Gerbe's 3rd NHL training camp, and he made the team coming out.

This was Mancari's 5th NHL camp. He again couldn't make it.

Gerbe is where he is because he beat other guys out. Yes, it took some good NHL time for him to really turn the corner, but the fact is Gerbe played his way into getting that time.

Mark Mancari hasn't been able to do that. As average as he's been this time up, he'll still go right back down the second an injury clears. Until you can beat out the guy on the depth chart right next to you, you'll sit in the A, and only get time up when people are hurt.

what was the deal with cody mccormick last year then?

mccormick was signed to play in the A, then he made such an impact when he was called up he got a more serious look and made the team out of camp this year
