Had some thoughts on the game and we haven't done one of these in a while so what the hell.

I thought it was the second straight time that Toronto caught Buffalo in a trap game with a vastly more important opponent on the horizon. I know such things aren't supposed to play a factor, but I'm sure they did a little.

I also noticed that the Sabres have come off playing against four defensive minded teams in Nashville, Montreal, Florida, and New Jersey. I wonder if the somewhat faster and more open style of the leafs didn't throw them for a bit of a loop at first.

I didn't catch the 1st, but in the 2nd and 3rd, the defense just couldn't seem to handle the Leafs' forecheck.

Leafs played well tonight. They deserved to win. You'd hope Miller doesn't let that first one in, but he made some big stops in the 3rd to give them a chance.

Too tight a race to dwell on it. Remember that's not how you want to play, and look ahead. Still control their own destiny, big games coming up.

Monty was awful. Myers seemed gassed much of the game. Miller was manic. Either a great save, or a soft goal. Liked Vanek's game. He seemed to understand how important it was.

Also important to note Pominville has his 5th consecutive 20 goal season. And is doing is whole "playing well during the home stretch" thing.
Maybe not important, but interesting.

I still think he looks retarded 90% of the time he's on the ice, lol.

True, there is no time to look back. It's a race and you need to keep pushing forward. The Sabres definitely had a hard time handling the Leafs tonight. Still 3 points ahead of the Canes

Yeaaaahhhh. lol. But he seems to have caught on to going to the net hard. It seems like that's how he's gotten the majority, if not all of his goals in this recent stretch. Hopefully he can remember that.

I actually thought Pommers was one of the better players tonight. He looked like he was fighting hard for most of the game.

It seemed like the offense came to play, I mean they did get three and came back from 2 goals down, but the defense let them down and couldn't clear the puck out of the zone or help by keeping it in their zone.

Miller played well enough to win it, but some of those goals were on the defense too. MacArthur came in alone, why they left him wide open, the defense not watching the blueline at all and letting Phil Kessel and the first line cherry pick the line the entire night.

Miller's glove hand seemed weak. He let a couple bounce of and of course that shitty first goal.

Yeah I don't want to turn this into a Miller debate. I think that Miller isn't as good high as he is elsewhere, even for being a butterfly goaltender. Mike's better to offer opinion on that though, I could be completely wrong.

miller lives and dies with his legs/feet. he has exceptional speed laterally and squares up well. his hands are par for the course, maybe even a little above. as for tonight, the feed died, and i didnt see it, so i cant say about tonight. his downfall is his consistency on occasion.

That's a rested Rags team coming in to play tonight against the weary Sabres. Not looking like good karma here.

I don't understand why we let the Leafs have the blue line the entire night. Other teams use the neutral zone and the blue line as an advantage of defense and we just back off when Kessel or any speed type guy stepped up.

Bad.

I just look at it like this, they scored 4 we scored 3, most nights 3 is good enough to atleast get a point, tonight it wasnt. Oh well, 6 games left; 3 points up on the 9th place team, gotta win atleast 4 games to lock it up, and if we leap frog someone, then great.

May be apathetic, but I honestly just want to see us in the playoffs, because if Philly and Montreal proved anything, once your in, you're the same as everybody else.

Very well said. As is always the case Miller's performance was blown out of proportion with negativity. He got his swagger back by the 3rd. The Leafs were playing for their lives and it showed, the Sabres really wanted that win but they simply aren't facing elimination right now.

I don't think it was the Leafs forecheck that was the problem nearly as much as the fact that the Sabres provided absolutely no resistance at the blue line, and Toronto carried the puck into the zone with a ton of speed and open space. Not to mention loads of neutral zone turnovers. Looked like the all-star game out there. The Leafs easily could have netted 7 or 8 with the number of unbelievable chances they had. Any more of that loosey-goosey D, and they'll be staring up at 8th.
