Hi everyone,
I'm on the planning committee for this event, and was hoping I could put in a plug for it here.
We are a student group at UB organizing a "Yuri's Night" celebration. It's one of many, many parties held throughout the world to commemorate the launch of Yuri Gagarin, first man into space. This year marks the 50th year of manned spaceflight, and we are celebrating the achievements of the past 50 years, and those yet to come.
It's going to be a great event, and if you're at all interested in space, science, exploration, or parties and food, you should come. It's this Friday, from 8:30 pm - 1 am, at Pearl Street.
I know there's a Sabres game at home at the same time - and believe me, I'll be watching too...it is at Pearl Street, after all, they'll have the game on.
Tickets are $20 for the event, and include Pearl Street's "Buffalo Buffet" for dinner. Dexter Johnson, Chief of the Structural Branch at NASA Glenn, will be speaking at about 10 pm (coincidentially ends up being at the end of the game, hopefully), and we'll have music afterward. Tickets can be purchased at
http://www.subboard.com/tickets. Tickets will be on sale at the door for $25, but only until 9 pm. Dinner should run through 10 pm, although I need to run this by Pearl Street to make sure.
For anyone that goes to UB, we're running a shuttle there from North campus for free.
If you're at all interested, or in the area, come out and join the party! Yuri's Night is a one-of-a-kind experience, fusing space exploration with a party - and always proves to be a great time.
More info about the event is available at our website,
