Philly plays Buf and NYI. Pitt plays NYI and Atl. Good chance Pitt actually wins that division and gets the 2nd seed, and Buffalo would be the team helping to make that happen.

So if Buffalo beats Philly, good chance we play Pitt or move up and play Boston. If Buffalo loses to Philly, good chance we move down to 8th and play Washington.

Hmm it's going to be interesting. Tonight let's root for the Wings too beat the Canes in regulation, that would be HUGE!

I'm less and less afraid of the Penguins in the first round, especially if Miller and Crosby are unable too play. Enroth + No PPP = major upset

With Pitt, I prefer not to face them, but they will be forced to play Staal 25+ mins a game and maybe go to three lines for much of the series. That will wear them out by game 5 or 6. They play so disciplined though, with Fluery seeming to have our number, so I wouldn't assume any outcome, but I wouldn't be confident.

I have a couple things to say which won't make me too popular to some fans. The first is that I'm not a fan of jinxing the team so opening my mouth as to who is easier won't happen. The second is that I don't care who we play because we are not a cup team yet. We are rebuilding and I have already started looking towards next year. That's not to say I don't hope for a great showing because I'm a die hard fan....I'm just being realistic about our chances.

That's fine, and I mostly agree. I still cling to the idea that anything can happen in the playoffs, especially if (as with Buffalo) you go in hot.

Well let's be honest, even the most naive fanatic has nervous fears about the teams future this season. Losing sucks and I hate disappointment, but do yourself a favor and keep an open mind about this year, don't let too much doubt cloud you from a possible epic journey of playoff awesomeness, it can change your life! The Sabres are a scary good team right now, and when it's this time of year it doesn't matter where you finish in the standings. What truly matters are phrases like: "hot goalie", "winning streak", "points streaks", "playing his best hockey of the season", etc..Those teams are usually the ones that make the most noise in the first two rounds, and before you can catch your breath they are one of four teams left. And then I start drinking heavily and wake up around the awards ceremony! :)

All I know is that I like that team, that group of guys is a worthy group. They can do it, and they will try, and I'll be rooting for them and pointing out flaws as I always do. ;)

Maybe this thread should've waited until, ya know, the Sabres clinched. #premature

FWIW, Buffalo needs one point in two games to clinch. If Carolina wins two in regulation/OT to tie Buffalo in points and reg/OT wins, they still have a 20 goal differential to make up on Buffalo. That won't happen, so 93 pts is good enough to clinch 8th. I'd still rather get 6th and play Boston, or get 7th and somehow play Philly if Pitt can lose one or two.

hey man, I'm not saying there isn't a chance but with the history of this team, can you blame anyone for not getting too jazzed? I'm just looking at next season. hoping to pick up a solid D man, one or two 3rd or4th liners and perhaps one or even two 1st or 2nd liners. Of course I'm pumped about the playoffs, just looking at the horizon more is all.

Wow, it really would come down to the goal differential because they tied the season series as well.

Believe me, I'm desperately devising ways in which I can reverse the bad luck that I think this thread is causing.

Soooooooooooo...who do you want now?

Pittsburgh?
Philadelphia?
Boston?

I still don't believe Tim Thomas is that good, I still think Buffalo can play Boston as well as the regular season, and I still want revenge.

I still want Philly, but Pittsburgh and Boston worry me less the more I think about how to beat them. But Philly has the worst goal tending so I say go after them. It comes down to the last game of the year!

Just say no to the Penguins. I'll take the Flyers or Bruins, thanks.
