The biggest thing is the records over the teams past 20 games or so.

The Sabres have been 16-4-4 since February 23rd. The Flyers have gone 7-7-6 in their past 20 games.

We're rolling right now, the Flyers aren't.

I think those records reflect the conditioning of the two teams, the Sabres have been fighting for their lives for a long time now, and the Flyers have been complacent. However, nobody know more than Philly how meaningless the regular season is, and I don't expect them too be lolly-gagging on the ice. Last year they got in on game 82 then went to the Finals. They know that everything is brand new now, and they know what it takes to get to the Finals.

They just wont be able to do it this year, because the Sabres will play better.

Ending the regular season strong is a huge factor. It helped carry Pittsburgh to the Stanley Cup after they had a remarkable second half of the season in 09.

The records don't mean anything, but their play in the last two months is huge.

The physical conditioning and the attitude, yes. The numbers, no. And in the case of a veteran team that has been through this all before, like the Flyers did last year, I don't think attitude is a factor. I think the Sabres will be the more physically conditioned team in this series, and that could lead to a quick 2 games to none advantage for the Sabres. The Flyers will likely turn it on and play with more desperation but there's no way the Sabres will take their foot off of their throat. They know better.

Shameless self promotion. It's an article detailing the performances of each Eastern Conference team in their last thirty games heading into the playoffs.

Pretty interesting. If we win, it's going to be the Caps in round 2. That's going to be like two massive rams butting heads. The return of Roy/Hecht could prove pivotal.

Split against the Caps in round 2 after we beat Philly and you couldn't pass a BB through their puckered sphincters.

I feel bad for Vancouver....Miller coming back for a 2nd round of silver.

Well that's about what I expected....
One idiot claiming a key to win against the Sabres was for Briere to use his body and be physical??!!?!?!
And one typical Philly douchbag saying shoot high on Miller to re-injure his collarbone.

nice

Buffalo is a pretty terrible party city so I see the Flyers having no problem taking care of them up there. It's when they are home that the temptation gets to them. I say the key to the series is staying sober throughout. I know it's a long shot but it could happen.

What does this even mean?

No idea...players partying before the superbowl is a perennial problem, but not so much during the first round of the Stanley cup playoffs.
Then again, they're from Philly, so their idea of a party is probably throwing D-cell batteries at girl scouts.

Those girl scouts deserve it.

Really? I mean it seems the party starts early and ends late in Buffalo. Its a "soft" noon and 4am.

The Amish drink in Buffalo. Ol' Jebbadiah just let's the horse lead the way home.

How anyone can still be surprised when they see a Philly fan being a douche bag is beyond me. These are the same shiny citizens who have booed when injured players stand up or cheer when they can't. They have zero class and frankly, I get a big warm fuzzy each time we beat them. I would love nothing more than to listen to the Philly's announcing crew when they lose the forth game so i can slow down my DVR to the exact point when I hear their souls break.

For what it's worth, Penguins fans are rooting for the Sabres in round 1. Nobody likes Philly.

Why the Sabres will win...

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_d ... nhl-wp2474

Its just interesting to be how if the Sabres win it will be in 6 games. It the Flyers win as many or more people have them winning in 7 games as they do in 6 games.

Why is that?

Oh an thank BTW, to Matt Barr's column who's now convinced that the Sabres good play isn't just a "spurt"...that's what it takes to get recognized as playing well if your the Sabres...most points since January other than the Canucks...the President's Trophy winner.

The key to the Sabs victory in this series and the rest is heart. Forgot all the hype of our opponents or our season achievements; bring your ass down here on the ice, and do something about it.

Another un-sung key to victory is to get HSBC on the richter scale. We've only got at most three games there this series, so let the boys know the citys got their back.

Now let's get it done.

The playoffs is always a different beast when compared to the regular season, when it comes to the crowd. They will be loud, you can bet on that.

The HSBC crowd wasn't even close to the 05-06 and 06-07 levels during the playoffs last year.

I hope that changes.

I like the way the Sabres have played the last 3 or 4 months. Hell, at times I love the way they've played. Still, I think maybe many of you are looking at this series through blue-and-gold-colored glasses. Philly has depth that Buffalo just doesn't. The goaltending situation easily could be a key or could be the Sabres biggest advantage, or it could not. Depends on which Ryan Miller shows up. As we all know, we've seen the Ryan Miller the Vezina winner at times this year, and we've also seen Ryan Miller the 5th round pick at times this year.

Don't take this series lightly.
