i decided to have some fun. pretend you are commish (i know the commish doesnt really make a ton of decisions, but whatever).... what would YOU do to change the NHL?

1. expand the regular season to 84 games.
2. go back to the divisional playoff format.
3. re-align the conferences to go back to two divisions each.
4. move the coyotes to seattle, washington. (based on a new arena being built)
5. merge the pathers and lightning into one team in orlando, florida.
6. move the atlanta thrashers to quebec city, quebec.
7. grant hamilton, ontario an expansion team (based on a new arena being built)
8. mandatory visors.
9. new points system. 2 points win, 1 point ties, 0 points loss in regulation, OT.
10. headshot suspensions more severe.

and go! have fun with it!

1. Have Pierre Mcguire, Jack Edwards and Mike Milbury shot and finally put Don fucking Cherry in a mental hospital.
2. 10 minute OT 4 on 4 then shoot out or even 5 minute 3 on 3
3. No points for overtime losses.
4. Drop the instigator penalty
5. Get some teams out of the south and back in the north where they belong.
6. Get rid of the delay of game, over the glass penalty.

1. 3 points for a win in regulation, two points for a win in a shootout/overtime, 1 point for a loss in overtime/shootout.

2. Move the Carolina Hurricanes back to Hartford.

3. Cut a TV deal with ESPN.

4. Allow fans to watch games for free online.

sadly, my understanding is ESPN has no desire to show NHL hockey on their stations anymore. i really hope that changes, and versus AND espn show games in the future.

ESPN/ABC has been in negotiations with the NHL for at least a month to get back in, along with Fox.

just cut a BETTER TV deal... promote HD hockey... in my opinion there is not a better sport to be promoted in HD than hockey! And I dont think the league is taking advantage of how great HD hockey really is...

Focus more on some of the other very skilled players... maybe an HBO show like the 24/7 but a brief series on different players and what they go through to get ready for a season... training camp... etc...

No more instigator, if the league is not going to properly punish repeat offenders, let the players police it... yes this means fighting in the game, but it worked for decades.... I still want to see a comparison or concussions pre instigator vs. post instigator....

Officiating! Officiating! Officiating! - I want games called consistently and fairly... Im not sure what to do to fix it... BUT I want games called evenly, consistently and fairly! Period!!! Enforce the rules in place...

Chip the puck and goal line... and cameras in the goal posts... they can much more easily tell if the puck has crossed the line... embrace some of the technology out there...

Somehow make it so that fans get their broadcast by their OWN announcers, in every market. I am sick to death of the "unbiased" guys Versus has. I'll be listening to the radio(computer) in my room rather than put up with their crap!

Call the playoffs the same as the regular season. No more swallowing of whistles late in the game or if one team is already on the PP (Can't believe the Sabres actually had to kill a 5 on 3 in Game 1).

Go by wins and losses. No loser point. It's 2 or it's 0.

Make puck over the glass like an icing. Faceoff in the D zone. No line change for the offending team. No commercial break.

Ditch the instigator rule.

Chips in the puck and the net, if the technology is doable.

Stuff Gary Bettman into a shoe box.

Severe penalties for things like head shots, particularly for repeat offenders. Play the game clean or face a lifetime ban.

Realign divisions, might not have to work.

Instead of seeds 1, 2, 3 being the division champs, make it by points order regardless of a division winner.

OT expanded to 10 minutes, 4-on-4.

Schedule should include 2 games against the other conference one home and one away. Somehow work that into a format where it doesn't go insane amount of games.

Best I've found was 4 games against all eastern conference foes. For a total of 86 total games then.

Yea, 30 games against the west and 56 against the east.
