Seriously, what a soft shutout that was. I'm so sick of him keeping enroth from the glory he is bound for. As far as I know he's the first goalie ever to achieve a SV% higher than 1.

right?!

i hope some people get this reference. a certain poster used to make thread after thread about miller being... just average.

i disagree with this statement. respectfully, of course.

OMG he's an effing Flyer now, or did yinz not get the flyer about that? Eff Criere of the Cryers.

Drury was the one who wanted out of Buffalo and was also the one that the Sabres tried to reel in, they basically ignored Briere until they got a definitive no from Drury which was a believe a few days before free agency and then they threw a bogus offer at Briere that was kind of insulting in my opinion. Briere wanted to stay and they went for the wrong one :(

Right, except that for now on he's a douche bag money grubbing flyer traitor who could have stayed if he really wanted too. Actions speak louder than words and leaving is one thing, but becoming a flyer is unforgivable.

Your kidding right? Why would Briere have any resentment to anyone on Philadelphia so much that he would deny $10 million especially after the team he wanted to stay with snubbed him? The fans make such a big deal out of make believe rivalries way more than the players even consider. Sure the Sabres/Flyers may have used to have a deep rivalry but it has long since faded.

Yeah I don't know if I can't blame Briere.

First of all, Biron tempted him to go there. Second of all, it's nice to feel wanted.

He got snubbed by BTG and LQ.

It doesn't make me dislike him any less at this point because he's the enemy, but I can't say I blame him for going where he did, either.

briere pleaded, literally pleaded, for a discounted contract. he begged management to keep that team together. im not using the word 'plead' for affect, he literally pleaded, apparently. the sabres focused on drury, and briere waiting... and waited. and by the time the sabres decided he was their silver medal, briere had moved on. briere wanted to be a sabre, but he also has pride. i hold zero ill towards him for moving on with his career. those who do.. well thats just unfair.

it is what it is. hes a flyer now, and i still wish him luck.

I agree with Mikey. Management was not kind to Briere and it was pretty insulting to offer him the contract he was begging for that management decided he was not worthy of at the beginning of the season. Honestly, I really wanted Drury to stay, too, but it was clear he had his heart set on NY because the Sabres tried to match the contract he received. He simply did not want to be here, and wanted to go play for his childhood team. I don't necessarily blame Drury (although broke my heart, bastard), because I can only imagine how it feels to be playing for the team you grew up idolizing. At the same time, I wish he had been open about his intentions rather than saying things along the lines of "I wouldn't mind staying in Buffalo..." and things like that (not a direct quote, but he never gave any hint as to him wanting to test the market).

Either way, I really felt bad for Briere when he was struggling in Philly and how all the fans were saying really nasty things about him and his wife. He probably felt like he had made the biggest mistake of his life by playing there, but now things are going really well for him. I don't have any ill will towards any players who have left our team and would certainly never think to boo any of them. At the end of the day, it's business.

I love Briere. Unless he's actually on the ice while we're playing them. Then he's the enemy. I feel the same about Campbell. Management screwed that one up, big time. I harbor no ill will towards Danny. But I still want Weber to put him through the glass in Game 2.

HA! Your faith in your former Sabres makes you weak, and I find your compassion for the enemy...disturbing.

Briere and his wife did a lot of charity work in the city of Buffalo, it's pretty hard for me to dislike him after all that happened.

Thank you all for clarifying the Briere situation to the newer Sabre fans. I'm not sure I could have done it with as much class as you guys did.

I may like Briere, Dumont, Biron, Campbell, etc, but that isn't going to stop me from the booing the shit out of them if I'm in the arena haha

Yeah. My mantra ever since we heard the Flyers would be our matchup, I put my liking for Briere aside for the next two and a half weeks.

i think it depends on the situation. none of them really wanted to leave. biron wanted to be a starter. cant blame him there. campbell was apparently persuaded to not sign a 3 year deal offered by buffalo... when a player plays his hardest for my teams uniform, he gets my applause next time hes in town.

shit, i remember people bashing max for "not trying" but max worked his ass off. he was just an idiot. for his hard work, he always has my respect and gratitude. but thats just me. i wont tell anyone how they should look at former players.

Geez, I should have realized this series would cause another rehash of the Drury/Briere saga. it will never die. I think everyone on this board and their children will have to die before people actually stop taking about July 1, 2007.

Of course it won't. July 1, 2007 is a defining moment in the history of the Buffalo Sabres, whether we like it or not.

Meh, I doubt that.

Look how often the subject comes up when neither player is even involved? Some people are never going to get over it.
