I went and got a cup of joe, and thought about all the penalties, and I have concluded that for me personally, only two of them were truly awful penalties. Gaustad's stick hold and once again a Montador mishap that could not have come at a worse time, and it lead to the GWG.

I'm proud of the team, they played hard nosed playoff hockey and if you're going to get beat then get beat playing hard.

Having said that, they could have made things easier on themselves by controlling the puck better and remaining disciplined.

I've seen Miller react better to a couple of those shots, but there were some tough bounces too.

Sekera scored a great goal and made a gutsy shot block, but he should have played a more confrontational style around his net in the first period. I'm not asking for Rod Langway but give it all you got when boxing guys out.

I love Gaustad's game but I think he actually played too much tonight, don't overdue it Lindy.

Myer's struggled, his passes were not sharp, and his legs were not as fresh either. He also made some bad decisions with the puck. Can't do that against this team, they have way too many guys that can make you pay. If you aren't sure- FLIP IT OUT-don't always try to squeeze it past the point man on the boards and create a high d-zone turnover.

Ennis, Boyes, and Staffard did not play poorly, but they have got to get some quality chances generated for Game 3. Especially Ennis who is not shooting at all.

The face-off work was epic, it would have been A LOT worse if not for some great work in the circles by Connolly and Gaustad.

You really have to give that PK a standing ovation, that was an epic performance. I would say that they deserved better but they did take a lot of penalties, they weren't all made up.

I expected the game to open up. It did and Buffalo could have won if...the team didn't take so many penalties and force their best players to stay on the bench or share PK duties. To play for that long on the PK and still only lose by one shows they can and should win this series if they just farking play their game.

A post from hfboards I think sums this game up;

Quote:
Meh. We let Philly have an entire period on the PP and lost by 1 in their building in a must win game for them

come out monday, win game 3.

The sky isn't falling, folks....

The Flyers pretty much played 16 minutes with the man advantage, almost an entire period. And they Dived and Dived. If you didn't hate that team as much as I do before, I hope you do now. I feel sick having been forced to watch their feed for two games.

Sabres PK in the series: 14/15. We could have won this game. We got the split, and we're home for the next two. We'll be alright

I'm fine. We weren't going to sweep this series. Here it comes to Buffalo. Lets take care of business.

I can't remember the last time I had watch a Sabres Game and they were taking penalty after penalty. Some really boneheaded penalty's I must say. Anyone else notice Tyler Myers love's to crosscheck alot and I'm not just talking about in game 2. He's laying the lumber on people. I'm loving it. Looks alot like Pronger sometimes giving the opposing players the lumber.

Yeah but I suspect that the Flyers know that and are going to try and exploit it. Gotta use situational awareness and pick your spots. Believe it or not Hartnell KNEW Myers would hit him and he dove right onto Miller's leg. That's the way he plays.

Upon further reflection, the Sabres barely lost despite getting royally boned by the refs. My anger level has dissipated, if only slightly.

philly was going to win their fair share of games, i think we all knew that going in. I think the sabres are not only the better team, but are clicking on special teams as well. should pan out in the long run in this series.

The dives were pretty laughable tonight. Our guys were taking dumb penalties but fuck were most of them weak as hell. And how did Gerbe take a 4 minute there? Fuck it we got the split.

I didn't see but maybe one dive, and the home feed didn't have RJ and Harry complaining about diving either. The Montador penalty was accidental and the forward had him totally beat so there was no reason to dive and take away a breakaway. The Pominville penalty was lazy but the forward maybe/probably fell with the slight tug. The Gerbe double (extra) roughing minor was bs, and the Kaleta roughing call was questionable. Aside from that I saw a whole lot of undisciplined hockey that kept their best players off the ice. I really don't think the Sabres have any excuses since they piled that much dirt on their own coffin.

I know you hate Philly (like every hockey fan) but...

What about the glove to the face that was called a high stick? They definitely played undisciplined hockey but the embellishment and weak calls certainly didn't help either. We deserved a bunch but 7 or 8 in a period? I saw a lot of calls that were called on us and not on Philly but you're right, we did ask for it. Hopefully a good ass chewing from Ruff/Miller will turn their shenanigans around for game 3.

Oh damn that was so gay, Giroux faints because somebody touched him and then LITTERALLY gets up giggling about it. When people look at this game and call the sport a bad joke, there's nothing I can say to defend it. They Dove all the way to the Finals last year, but there was one game in which a coach raised hell about their Diving, and the next game they actually called it. But then they let them Dive the rest of the time.

And Sekera gets a penalty when a Flyers face skates into his glove during a collision. What a joke.

Sabres weren't screwed by the refs. F that BS. Lindy didn't blame the refs. Flyers took 8, Sabres took 10. The difference IMO was in the 2nd period when we stopped skating and then had a parade to the box. God, Monty looks about 80 years old too. What about the BS delay of game in the 3rd on the Flyers when the puck went off one a Sabre player's helmet if you're gonna whine about the bad calls?

I loved the aggressiveness they showed tonight and loved the PK. Some shotty defense early on cost them too, but Philly has tremendous speed and they're going to make us look bad sometimes. But we were flying in the 3rd and ran out of time more than anything else. If we skate, we win this series.

There were 3 BULLSHIT calls, 2 DUMB penalties, and 5 GOOD penalties. When 10 are called you know it's going to be a little of everything. I got no problem with the Flyers getting 5 or even 6 power plays, not with how awesome the Sabres PK is. Hell give them 7. But the Sabres need to eliminate their dumb penalties and the refs need to stop effing them in the ass, this is the playoffs and if they are going to call EVERYTHING then call those Dives too.

As for the helmet mishap hey bad break just like it was a bad break that Myers gently touched hartnells gay ankle and he got shot

All I can say is, let them play. I'm not ok with any of the officiating that game. Either way. All kinds of chippy, borderline, soft calls were made. Let them play, it's playoff hockey. Look the other way on the little things, and call the big things.
