A few months ago I started a thread about Timmy's demise. Although I don't apologize for the thread because he was playing like a disinterested heap of garbage up to that time, extending into last season, now also seems like a good time to recognize him for successfully reinventing himself. Gone, seemingly, in the past few months, are the free-wheeling days of mindless passes, horrendous giveaways, and lazy D, replaced by a focused approach, good shot selection, improved faceoffs, and above all, stellar penalty killing. He's been good in the playoffs so far, with great D, and some really nice chances offensively in game 2. He's probably the primary reason Philly is 0-3 with the 2-man advantage. Easily one of the top 3 or 4 players during the late stretch run.

I don't know if he's worth re-signing at his current salary, but IMO, he's more valuable than Boyes.

i have had the same mental confliction but I have come to the opinion that...well....fuck him. He's too streaky and I'm just not buying his turn around.

I can live with offensive streakiness if he continues to be a rock defensively and on the PK.

He'd be fine at $2M or less for what he provides.

However, he'll never take that much of a paycut to stay.

Timmy has always been a enigma.. sometimes he dazzles sometimes he is a shit streak on the ice. i would be in favor of him staying for a paycut but i doubt knowing him he wont take it.

Esepcially not on a Non-Stanley Cup Contender.

He's not worth it just like Stafford's not worth it. With all the contracts we have given to streaky players such as Kotalik, Connolly, Pyatt and Pominville and many others that's just in the recent history.

Money should be saved into signing our younger players like Gerbe, Gragnani and so on...

If any money should be spent it's on a #1 center and a solid D-Man...

Stafford is still restricted, which means he isn't a major risk.

Give him a reasonable raise. If he declines it and elects arbitration, then you can walk away from the award if it doesn't suit you. No risk at all.

I think $2 million is unrealistic and even unfair. If he accepts $3 million/3 year, in good faith(this franchise has been good to him), then that's acceptable. It would also be a move-able contract. Seeing the market is thin, he will get over-paid elsewhere almost for sure. I guess it will all depend on the seriousness of this team to win a cup, and the chance the teams that offer him deals have as well. He's no spring chicken, so he's going to have to decide cup or money. He already has money, so maybe give him a 5 team list of teams to be traded to or something to sweeten the deal.

Gah I hate threads about players when they are playing well, and during the playoffs?!

He's transformed into a surprisingly good defensive center, and his penalty killing positioning and face-off work has become OUTSTANDING.

Agree with most of this. Whatever run they make during the playoffs will likely influence his marketability, but he's worth more than $2M no matter where he goes. He'll go with whoever offers him the most money. They always do.

I don't want him unless he takes a cut in pay. Yes, he has played very well the last few weeks or so, but that doesn't cut it in my book. It's a contract year and he knows it. It will more than likely be back to the some old shit play at the start of next year.

It has been suggested to me that Timmy's play has improved due to the Pegula Effect. He was apathetic due in part to the dead end situation in Buffalo (Golisano, etc) But now, with Buffalo becoming Hockey Heaven, Timmy wants to stick around. Good things are happening here and he wants to be part of it. Playing well is the only way to do this so...

Now mind you, I am not convinced of this theory. I am only sharing it to see what you guys think.

I liked something Briere said the other day in a WGR interview. They asked him about if he had any "odd" feelings playing against Buffalo and he said that he used to but since the "people who didn't want me here" are gone it's all good. Seems the poison was Tommy G and Larry Q. If players were playing shitty because they were stuck on what they saw a dead end team and now they want to stay, it does change things. That being said, the logic is that the rest of the league knows about this change and we can potentially bring in new guns. I say pay the new guys, bring in top weaponry and let's win a fucking Cup.

Blasphemy. Connelly has played better but he's still weak with the puck, weak at the blue line...

No thanks...

Connelly has over stayed his welcome if he stay then it just more of the same from the Sabres and we all hope and believe that Pegula will not let that happen. If he is resigns I would almost say darcy would be let go immediatly or wait I HOPE HE WOULD BE

Quick question does Ted Black oversee all the trades/drafts/free agent signings? Or is Darcy the only one with the final say on if it goes down or not?

Here's how to solve all the Sabres' problems:
Switch Connolly to defense and Myers to forward. That's basically what's happened in this series anyway. That way, we won't get caught with no one at the point when Myers joins the rush, and he is going to do it every time down the ice it seems from the first three games of this series.
