Quote:
Briere had been emotionally charged up, and more than a little angry, since early in the game. "Honestly, one of their young guys said something to me that was personal and crossed the line," the former Sabre said. "It got me fired up a little bit more than it usually does. That was probably a big part of it."

A Flyers source said Patrick Kaleta made comments to Briere and teammate Scott Hartnell about their divorces early in the Flyers' 5-4 overtime victory, which evened the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at three games apiece.
...
Maybe the personal digs by Kaleta were no big deal. But Briere scored Philly's first goal after the Sabres surged to an early 2-0 lead. He scored again to tie the game in the second. And it was Hartnell who tied the game, 4-4, after Briere's speech.

To translate this out of Sully-speak : Kaleta should keep his mouth shut because he fired up Briere, and that's why the Sabres lost.

This guys is suck a fucktard. There's worse trash talk every day in the NHL.

Sully also said the first round of the NBA playoffs have been better than the NHL playoffs.

This guy is a fucktard.

Is this Sully's way of "firing up" Kaleta?

Lindy indirectly hammered him.

#Sabres Lindy Ruff on alleged trash-talking: "We’ve talked about that. I think sometimes players on the other team make stuff up, too." ZING

How anyone can take him or Bucky serious is beyond me. Sullivan wrote a column last week praising Miller and how important he is when just a few months ago he was the one provoking Miller in the locker room after a tough loss, talking about how many games Miller has given up 4 or more goals and other nonsense like that. Now all of a sudden he's onboard with Miller talking about how important he is to Buffalo, the fans, the team, etc.

Then Bucky comes out with this column a few days ago talking about the genius of Lindy Ruff and how we should never lose our trust in him when a few months ago all he could write about is how Lindy has "lost the team" and how there needs to be a coaching change.

What a couple of fools these guys are.

In their defense, their job is to open their mind to the public and write what they feel. Even without Bucky's article, people were thinking Ruff should go.

I know journalism isn't what it used to be, but I think you sort of have to be a dick to be in the industry these days.

I wonder what kaleta could have said to both of them about their divorces. Something like "What, did you guys finally drop the pretense and start banging each other openly? I always thought you looked like a cock-hungry power bottom danielle!"

Their job is to tell the public what is happening with the team. Not to sensationalize and tell people what they should believe.

I've got no problem with them for having that opinion about Ruff. However, man up and admit that you were wrong later on when you're stroking him off.

Seriously...they are both hypocrites, and flip flop their stance on the team faster than anyone, yet the tone of their columns are condescending, as if they are more knowledgeable than their readers and their opinion is somehow held higher in regard.

All because you are a journalist doesn't mean that you are suddenly an expert on hockey or whatever other sport you cover.

I understand that point, but the point of a journalist isn't to admit defeat, or to know anything more than any person. The poin of a journalist is to get under the reader's skin, because it gets people to read the paper. That's what they're hired to do. They seem like these douchey, self-pretentious pricks, and it works.

Don't tell me that's not true, because it obviously is if you're all still reading about it.

I see what you're getting at, but I usually stop as soon as I see Bucky's or Sullivan's name on anything, but yeah every now and then I'll read their columns.

Are they doing it to just sell papers? Maybe...probably. Must be nice to be a columnist in a one-newspaper town. But I rarely purchase a paper anyways, I just read them online for free.

Hah, try telling that to them.

Woah now...we ought to not be using journalist as a catch-all word here. Bucky and Sully are purely columnists, not reporters. Their only job is to be opinionated and write whatever bullshit they feel, not objectively report on things without personal bias. That's John Vogl's feces-free job.

Yes, I am aware of the differences between a reporter and a columnist. Being a columnist is a form of journalism, though.

I am not complaining about them interjecting their opinion into their writings, I know that's their job.

I'm just putting it out there since you were saying that we shouldn't be using journalism as a catchall when referring to Bucky and Sullivan who are columnists.

We know who you were referring to. I should have made the distinction. You're absolutely right.

Also, I'd like Jerry "NBA Playoffs are better" Sullivan to watch the three (maybe five) game sevens that will be happening.
