why? players can ask for safer masks. they're adults. i don't like that we have to hold athlete's hands like they're children wiping their ass for the first time.

That's a fair point, but on the flip side, teams invest a lot of money in their players. And when they are being paid millions of dollars, maybe some decisions shouldn't be left up to the players. It should be more about the team's well being more than an individual player's preference, you know?

With that said, I really don't know much about the differences of goalie masks and what makes a safer mask and what doesn't.

the big thing is no flat surfaces on the mask. so it deflects and transfers the energy around the shell, rather then through it.

what? majority of goalies wear warwick and itech masks. itech is considered the safest, but warwicks are really good too. i dont see any way to make the safer, outside making carbon fiber masks mandatory. which most are wearing anyways.

having masks painted actually weakens the shell, albeit not by much. but thats why you can repaint a mask.

I really need to hear the reasoning behind how paint weakens a mask slightly.

because you have to sand away the top layer of the shell so the paint sticks on the shell. therefore, it thins out the shell and the paint CAN eat at it, though not very noticeably.

The fact that players make a lot of money shouldn't interfere with their opinions. That statement is bull.
