It's really more your tone I disagree with. I think you're right in pointing out Pakistan's role. But I just feel like you're trying to find fault in this because it's Obama who made the speech. Credit doesn't belong to Obama alone or even maybe to a very high degree for finding him, but neither does blame for not having done "more" already. If you want to say not enough has been done, fine. But you need to lay that at Bush's doorstep too then.

I think that (maybe) this combined with the popular uprisings in the Middle East could be a turning point in relations between the West and the Muslim world. I'm hoping the youth of the world will now look to each other, and not bin Laden or his type, for inspiration and support.

To quote Stewart:
Quote:
Y’know, if Congress made it rain cookies, the headline would read: DEMOCRATS LEAVE MILLIONS MILKLESS

He didn't say "This is the greatest accomplishment in America's history" or "Next to this, landing on the moon was small potatoes". He just said America rocks. I'm not surprised by the anti-Obama shit though. I mean Reps all over started in immediately saying shit about Obama taking credit for Bush's work, is this just made up to win over American voters and picking apart his speech blah blah blah.

I'm with you on that opinion Stu. I'm hoping that without a main figure head like Bin Laden combined with support from the Muslim people we'll see positive results. I have to give Obama props for not once but twice specifying that this is not a war on Islam and that all people no matter what their beliefs need to stand together. Saying that Bin laden was not a Muslim leader was smart as well. I know not everyone will see it like I do but my hope is that Muslims take something very positive away from that speech and this event.

I didn't mention levels of effort, Bush, or politics at all.

I simply don't see this as a "testament to our greatness"...If it is, we've really lowered the bar.
That's what Obama called it, not me.

yeah that's it...love the counter-arguments guys.
Feeling lazy today?

How does killing this guy after a decade being shielded by a government we materially support exemplify our greatness?

Because thousands of military men and women, civilians and private sector people have been busting their asses to make this happen. The sacrifices over the last ten years and the unyielding work by our services is greatness. Besides, what was he supposed to do? Go out there and say "Yup, we suck. Should have got him years ago."? Anything short of "Bush rocked as the Commander in Chief, I'm a weak Kenyan shadow of his greatness and I'm turning in my resignation." won't cut it for some people.

And "Feeling lazy today?" I mean out of everything you picked the "I didn't like his tone" slam? Yup, lots of effort there.

I don't give a shit if took 10 months or 10 years. It got done.

If you want to consider it to be not that big an accomplishment, then ok. I think that a lot tend to think that it is.

For the second time, I'm not referring to the several minutes of Obama's speech where he correctly gave big props to our military.
Their sacrifice and dedication is greatness.

But whatever, I'm just a hater apparently.
Maybe I should be praising Obama for finally cozying up to the idea of American exceptionalism...would that work?

Maybe you should stop finding fault in everything not done by a Republican. We got Bin Laden. The President gave an "America Hell Yeah!" speech. You chime in with the "Um...but I think his flag pin was crooked". Jesus fucking Christ.

I didn't find fault with getting Bin Laden...I didn't find fault with President Obama in regards to the operation, I think everyone did a kick ass job.
I think whomever wrote that speech for Obama got a big ol patriotic stiffy at the end and went overboard.

Sue me.

I think the speech was written well. I also think that his statement when heard in context was a smart way to say that even though we have all this bipartisan shit going on, today we can all cheer together. Despite crazy tea baggers and a broken, nearly useless group of assholes in congress we accomplished something great.

I'm not sure how they could have really gone anywhere else with that.

Public Enemy #1 was being chased for 10 years. They got him dead. People were running out in the streets celebrating BEFORE Obama even spoke.

Honestly, people would be criticizing him for anything less than an 'AMERICA, FUCK YEA!!' in that speech.

Yup, like I said, he couldn't go out and say anything else. If he criticized Bush or anyone else for being slow, diverting troops to Iraq, or whatever he'd be ripped to shit by the media. I mean he's being ripped anyway and we all kind of knew he would but this way it's only nit picking bullshit. Anyway, I'm just hoping my buds, family and the rest of the troops overseas don't get hit with a shit storm.

I'm currently a junior in college and was eleven years old on 9/11. This whole thing seems finished with Bin Laden's death. It's odd because it's dominated my generation's global view throughout our adolescence, and this death seems like an abrupt ending to it all (though I know it's really not).

I don't know why you came into a thread whose intent was to be celebratory of the death of a terrorist to complain about something Obama said (whether the gripe is legitimate or not). Seems off topic at the very least. I think that's the problem that a lot of people have.

It's because he gets a raging erection from picking internet fights. Drop an obviously baited comment into the conversation, sit back and then make chippy remarks to anyone who responds. It's all on purpose. Standard Cross. Fuck it, should have seen it coming.

Obama and Hitler both declared dead on the same day(May 1). I'm not comparing the two, but they are both certainly big deals.
