We're never going to know the truth so for them to say it's bullshit, is bullshit.

"Now back to explaining the joy at bin Laden’s passing, and why it’s OK: There’s been a quotation making the rounds on Twitter and Facebook since the announcement last night of bin Laden’s death, though it’s been misattributed to Mark Twain and misquoted to boot: the real quotation, by famed lawyer Clarence Darrow, is (with the line before it that improves it) “All men have an emotion to kill; when they strongly dislike some one they involuntarily wish he was dead. I have never killed any one, but I have read some obituary notices with great satisfaction.” That really sums it up nicely: You don’t have to think that someone deserved to die to be pleased at their passing. I told my kids, truthfully, that I cheer for bin Laden’s death not because a human being is dead but because a man who in my mind was far more evil than good, and who was responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent people, will never be able to hurt anyone ever again. And that is surely a good thing"

I like that explanation.

Congrats, to all involved for finally taking this piece of shit out. Anyone who thinks it's ok to kill innocent men, women and children needs a bullet in the head. I guess now the world waits for some sort of retaliation from his army of followers. Job well done but we need to keep up the fight..

Taking a decade to kill 1 asshole is a testament to our greatness? We didn't put people on mars or end our use of fossil fuels...we killed 1 terrorist.
Psychologically it's a win but that's about as far as this victory goes.

I think that (maybe) this combined with the popular uprisings in the Middle East could be a turning point in relations between the West and the Muslim world. I'm hoping the youth of the world will now look to each other, and not bin Laden or his type, for inspiration and support.

I don't even take it as a shot at Obama - ANY politician in office would have played the same song with the same undertone. This shit took too long, and is indeed embarrassing. The man, at this point, was less mastermind and more figurehead.

In recent memory, he doesn't have much competition. After all, the masses elected this dude twice:

Is that an all-time high without having the site crash? 'Cause it's been down due to high volume thanks to current events before at least once, that I can think of.

Actually, yeah, that statement's been erroneously reported, I think. According to a couple articles.... The most tweets per second sustained over an entire day was over 5,000 after the Japanese earthquake + tsunami. There was about 3500 per second for just a few hours around the time the announcement for bin Laden's death was made.

Well, al Qaeda's already calling him a martyr. :P if pictures of bin Laden's corpse must be released (they probably will be), so be it.

my point is that it's not obnoxious to not believe the federal government, so "setting your family straight" is a little over the top.

it's not like the government has always been straight up with the citizens and stuff. i think he's dead, but you know, just a few words doesn't really count as proof.

Disagreeing with someone's point doesn't take it's "legitimacy" away. I argued with plenty of specific (opinionated) points as did Stu. You're being contrary for giggles. Grow up.

Anything short of "Bush rocked as the Commander in Chief, I'm a weak Kenyan shadow of his greatness and I'm turning in my resignation." won't cut it for some people.

he couldn't go out and say anything else. If he criticized Bush or anyone else for being slow, diverting troops to Iraq, or whatever he'd be ripped to shit by the media. I mean he's being ripped anyway and we all kind of knew he would but this way it's only nit picking bullshit.

I think the speech was written well. I also think that his statement when heard in context was a smart way to say that even though we have all this bipartisan shit going on, today we can all cheer together. Despite crazy tea baggers and a broken, nearly useless group of assholes in congress we accomplished something great.
