My favorite quote of the Caps sweep: "You can't spell Ovechkin without C-H-O-K-E"

you also cant spell O-V-E-C-H-K-I-N-P-L-A-Y-E-D-G-O-O-D-T-H-E-R-E-S-T-O-F-T-H-E-T-E-A-M-A-N-D-C-O-A-C-H-D-I-D-N-T

This reply gave me an idea for a thread

The universe sits patiently waiting for the black hole to form... :P

Dear Ovechkin,
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
You're a joke of a captain. Vanek is 10x the leader you ever will be. Enjoy the golf course, you ugly Russian bastard.

Sincerely,
You're horribly overrated.

P.S. Remember that sweet dance you did against the Sabres after scoring a lucky goal? I don't see you dancing. What gives?

LOL nice

I dont care for his masturblatory celebrations or career threatening dirty hits either, he gets what he deserves. having said that he makes Vanek look like a pussy who skates in quicksand, he's a pretty unreal talent and he plays the game very hard.

To be fair, I said Vanek is a better leader. They did have the same goal totals this season though.Either way, this digresses from the series we all just watched. Ovechkin may have talked the talk, but I don't think he walked the walk, at least on a consitent basis. I just don't think he's a good leader and is more of "me" guy. I thought Tampa Bay did a good job denying him time and space because he's become a predictable player on the ice. A lot of people will attribute his decrease in production to a more defensive system but I think part of it is that he's become predictable and I think until he's willing to change his game, the Capitals won't be willing to change theirs because he, as the captain, is supposed to be setting examples.

EDIT: Not to take away from Tampa's defensive efforts, that 1-3-1 scheme was a huge part of their success and they executed to near perfection.

Ummm yeah he actually did walk the walk. He basically does something extremely impactful that benefits his hockey club every. Single. Shift. During the playoffs he elevates his game, inspires, leads, and flat out carries all of the slackers on his team. Their lack of effort puts even MORE pressure on him and yet he just goes out and destroys everybody with hard hits (mostly clean) and great play. All give Vanek more marks for back checking harder most of the time but that's about it.

I haven't seen many players like, EVER carry a team as well as Ovechkin carries that team. His only problem is that I don't think his teams owner is a hockey guy, he's more like a guy who wants to win for his own personal joy more than anything else. Good owners want it more for the players and fans to enjoy. Just my view. Why Ovie's GM decided to go with rookie goalies for 2 years in a row is really historically funny to me. Me and a lot of people scratched their head again when another deadline went by without the Craps adding a clutch veteran goalie for at least a backup role. They had TONS of resources to do so.

Meanwhile Yzerman knows what playoff hockey is all about, and he knows that the Cam Ward fairy tales are not the safe bet, you get yourself a veteran who knows what the pressure is like just in case. And he did. And they won.

I also think the Caps have some players that simply don't really care about the Cup.

You hit the nail on the head. Ted Leonsis is a very vain person so I could see why you said that.

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

Niemi last year was an unproven goaltender in the playoffs, and look at what he won.
