How many favorite teams do you have?

My personal belief is that having multiple favorite teams is disloyal to your primary favorite team.

How many of you agree/disagree/opinions.

I only ever want one team to win a championship. If that team is out, I no longer have a rooting interest. I'll get to a point where I'd like a certain team to win, but if they don't it's not that big a deal.

i want the sabres to win. once they are out, i root for vancouver, but from afar. i like vancouver because A. end the curse of the 1970 expansion teams (come on, everyone knows i believe in that shit), and i like kesler, the sedins, and luongo. if they lose, no hair off my ass, but i do like the canucks. usually, i only watch to root against the red wings once the sabres are done.

Helps living in another teams domain. I rooted for Washington when the Sabres were out, but well now I just watch and enjoy playoff style hockey.

You're only allowed to root for other teams under 2 conditions

1. your primary team is eliminated from the season
2. the success of a secondary team is beneficial to your primary team

no exceptions ;)

For me, when the Sabres are in play every other team can go pound sand. I don't even give credit to other players even if they scream they would love to play in Buffalo and are pulling down big bucks with another team. Anything that isn't Blue & Gold must die. It's almost obsessive how much I want this team to win and kind of frightening to my family

When the Sabres are out of it, I watch other games out of the love of the sport and pick out not who I would like to see win, but who I hate less which at this point in time, happens to be Nashville. ;)

Also, I've recently been told that I should just become a fan of hockey in general and not have a favorite team because I don't stress/freak-out, get too high or too low when Buffalo isn't in the picture and am a much more likable person to be around. And to those few who wish this, fuck'em.

I want next season to come around that much quicker now :D

I disagree. I like to root no matter what game I'm watching Usually that means if the Sabres or Habs (my #2 team) aren't involved, I figure out the team I like least and root for the other. Sometimes that can be tough (Bruins/Flyers series being an example), but most of the time it's an easy call and it ups my interest in the game.

I agree with Phil and Tom. Sports bigamy within a sport is wrong. There are only two teams I will celebrate championships for, the Bills and the Sabres.

"Celebrate" might be too strong of a word for what I'm talking about. Like, say two years ago when the Pens played the Wings in the final, I was glad that Pittsburgh won, but it's not like I jumped up and screamed like i do when Buffalo wins a playoff game. I didn't buy anyone a drink. I didn't order the commemorative DVD. But I was happy Detroit lost.

Big difference in my mind between rooting for a team and celebrating their victories.

What is this, a nazi regime? You can have a second favorite team. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I'm not sure you want to lump yourself in with me. I don't do that myself, but if other people want to, that's their deal.

I don't think it makes anyone less of a fan if they root for more than one team. In hockey, I pretty much exclusively like the Sabres. In football, I like the Bills and Colts. I'll root for the Eagles, too, since that's my boyfriend's favorite team.

There is no team that will come close to the Sabres. I don't really have any loyalty toward any other team, although I like certain players and I like to watch them succeed and I like to track them during the season. Certain years I'll be interested in certain teams, but I really don't have a team that stands out year in and year out.

I don't mind fans who like other teams, although I never understood it when fans love teams almost equally. I know people who love the Sabres first and foremost and like other teams, and when they play against each other they are always torn on who to root for. I don't understand that at all. How could any team come close to your devotion to your all-time favorite team?!

I think it's pretty gay to pledge your unwavering loyalty to only one team and forsake the rest of the world. Do you seriously think these millionaires give a shit about your loyalty? But it's not gay to have priorities.

My number one priority is to marry a petite blond with a happy attitude and a caring voice. In hockey, it's for the Sabres to win the Cup every year.

Both of these things are extremely rare and almost never attainable, even in my dreams. But you keep trying, and that is life as I know it. A series of failures that combine to make something that will never live up to the reason why you attempted to live in the first place.

My number 2 priority is to see the Penguins do well, or as it's known in the world of women. Get drunk and have sex with the fat chick. These secondary priorities are there to remind you of how much the #1 priority means to you and it makes you strive harder towards your #1 goal. Until you taste more bitter disappointment, and then the cycle continues. And let's face it, there isn't anything to do in Pittsburgh outside of sports and fat chicks. It's a Hell that i didn't ask to be born into, and when I try to escape there is a powerful undertow that drags me back under.

Priorities get progressively worse from #3 and out and smart people like me just lump everything into groups and thrive on the sick joy of your least favorite priorities failures. For the Flyers to be on the brink of elimination, it brings me peace and happiness. And so, my favorite team becomes the Bruins (who are usually one of my least favorite teams). And i am suddenly a HUGE fan of the Bolts. Got the home town boy Malone to root for, i always liked their uniforms, Stamkos, LeCavalier, St. Louis. All great guys too root for. Roloson is entertaining. Hedman. And mother fucking BERGENHEIM MOTHER FUCKER! FUCK YES!

And yeah in the West I want to see Trotz and Nashville win their first Cup, but I would like to see the Canucks get it too. So pretty much any teams that hasn't won a Cup yet, I want to win it now.
