Does anyone have any? I saw the movie Paranormal Activity a few nights ago and it really creeped me out. Mostly because I believe in ghosts or spirits or whatever you want to call them...and the movie seemed to be a pretty genuine depiction of what would happen if your house really was haunted (it's a Blair Witch/documentary type of movie).

So in light of just seeing that movie and with Halloween approaching us, it got me thinking about real life ghost stories and if anyone has any. I've got one...

About 4 years ago my friends and I were walking to this really old cemetery near my house around dusk time. When we got there, about 50 feet from us was a figure walking across the cemetery. It was about 7 feet tall and extremely thin...sort of like a walking tree branch or something (but it had limbs). It was translucent, you could see through it but it was almost glowing. It was walking very slowly and it didn't notice us, but we all seemed to notice it at the same time. We just stopped dead in our tracks and said, "What is that?" then without thinking we all just reacted and turned around and ran away. Looking back, I wish I would have stayed for a little bit to observe it more...

I live in the village of Orchard Park which has a lot of history to it dating back to the Quakers and the underground railroad, so every now and then I hear a good ghost story or someone talking about their house being haunted. The house across the street from me used to be an insane asylum in the 1800s...I've been in there a few times but never at night, I could only imagine what it must be like at night...

So, does anyone have any good stories?

Being a spiritual person and open to the spiritual world, I've had many experiences. When my dog died, he lived with my ex, 700 miles away, I woke in the middle of the night seeing a nose and a wagging tail over the edge of my bed. I knew he died.

I was remodeling a kitchen in a house built in 1830. From the stories, a young girl, 8 or 9, drowned in the cistern, a holding tank made of concrete in the basement of old houses. I painted a wall yellow which turned out red, stripped paint from a door and found child's fingerprints on the edge, a globe from a ceiling fixture fell and smashed on my head...there was blood everywhere. There were things moved, weird things happened to electricity, and other things that the owner reported. Finally I wrote a message to the little girl on the floor under a cabinet that I knew who she was and was sorry she died. All the weird shit stopped.

The most surreal event was, after a nasty wreck at Lancaster Speedway, I had to go to the hospital. While in the room waiting for x-rays, an old woman was breathing her last breaths in the adjoining room. I could hear her saying "not yet". A man came scrambling into the ER with his wife. She was having her baby. The nurse helped her to the floor right in front of me, my doctor delivered the baby, a girl, right there. The old woman died at that moment. The young mother named the little girl after the old woman.......

my uncle and his family see ghosts in their house. the story are pretty cool too.

my uncle was laying in bed after my aunt had gotten up and had supposedly left for work. downstairs he heard the sound of high heels walking on their hardwood floor. hes kind of confused and yells out "sue?" thinking she came back because she forgot something. well with no answer he yells again a little lounder "Sue!?". still nothing. he goes downstairs and there is no one there.

or

when my cousin was like 2 she was with my uncle and aunt in their room and he was crying beyond belief. nothing they did could calm her down. suddenly she stops and starts laughing. they ask her whats going on. she said "shes dancing." confused they ask "who?". Ashton (cousin) replies, "the lady, shes dancing." they were the only ones there. to this day, Ashton still mentions the "woman in the dancing shoes."

ill try to put more up later.

One of my favorite movies is The Ghost of Canterville, with Patrick Stewart and Neve Campbell. The story is awesome as well.

My cousin used to be a witch. She has some... interesting... stories from those couple of years. Couldn't go around at night outside of street lights because she saw things everywhere. She flipped out on another cousin when she found out that he was a Satanist. I was not surprised, given her experiences. I wasn't surprised, either, to find out that he was a Satanist because for several months I could not stand to be in the same room with him; it was too sinister and gave me a feeling of "get away now," and I had no idea what no earth was going on until he decided to tell us that he was a Satanist. And so on.

Anyway.

There's a reason there's no documented proof of the existence of ghosts.

Cool thread, fly. I reaalllyy want to see that movie, too.

My dorm room now is haunted, which I talked about in the rtt. Like, for real haunted. My stuff falls down all the time, and my bible was being thrown around, and the room itself is always super cold. There's a story about the dorm itself being haunted because it's named after this boy who died. I don't know about all that, but our room itself is pretty crazy.

Then once upon a time, I used to play with ouija boards all the time. We brought something nasty into my room at home which I have a million stories about, most noticeably my computer chair spinning crazy on its own and then my closet's clothes rack collapsing on its own in the middle of the night.

I always wanted to go on a ghost tour around here. There's so much history, there's no way you wouldn't experience something while doing one.

Ouija boards scare me! I am so intrigued by them, but I've heard so many stories that I choose not to mess around with them. Cool stories everyone... Going on a ghost tour would be fun. I know there's a lot of them around Buffalo, I should definitely go on one.

I don't totally discount that paranormal activity could exist.

I very much dislike shows like Ghost Hunters that exploit those that believe in such things.

With my job I have seen the reality of mental illness up close. It's quite amazing what the brain can "see" or "hear" depending on the disorder. A great many of these stories that I read or watch are easily explained by this. On the other hand, perfectly sane people will filter information through the brain in different ways, and emotion plays a huge part in that. Old houses, cemetaries, dark or quiet moments all cloud perception depending on the person. Electrical problems can be confusing, but an electrician could probably tell you exactly what that flare up was about.

After all that, there is the still unknown power of the brain/mind. Your brain works on things while you aren't. It solves problems based on all known info/data. You might "know" something before it happens, or before you're told about it because your brain has already filtered through all probabilities (mostly while sleeping). This is where dreams seem prophetic at times, because we sort of solve an issue while the mind is not cluttered with daily activities.

I could go on, but basically I'm a skeptic.

ive been to the Goodleburg cemetery that is popularly known for being haunted.
As soon as you walk up the steps into the cemetery it really does automatically get colder. I hadn't really done too much research beforehand so I didn't know what to look for, but me and my one other friend both saw these two red dots that looked like eyes, and it wasn't by anything that could have logically explained it. Then later when I got home, on the Goodleburg website, it says that many people see those, and it's supposed to be the eyes of the bloodhounds that used to live there. Theres a whole story behind Dr. Goodleburg and how he was this abortion doctor and he would bury some and throw others into a nearby pond. and then he killed himself by hanging from one of the trees in the cemetery. It's a really interesting story, and there's a website on it. and while we were there, my other friend saw something too.

I believe there are spirits out there.

My brother has been there a few times before... He said that when his friends went up to the tree that the guy apparently hanged himself from, he waited in the car because he was too scared to go, and he said he's never been so scared in his entire life waiting in the car by himself when they went up. I've known a few people who went there during the day (since it's illegal to go at night, a lot of people choose to go during the day), and they just say that they just didn't feel "right". I've never been there, but I would be interested to go...with a large group of people of course. ;)

I've also heard that it used to be a place where the mob would bury their victims.

some people have told me that they legitimately did find the infamous child handprints on their car after returning from the cemetery late at night. and on a pretty dark secluded road with a minimal amount of houses, you know no actual little kids would be running around.

The apartment my girlfriend and I moved into had an old lady die in it right before we moved in. This is why we still get free cable after 8 months (i'm assuming she never cancelled so nobody came to unhook it). But, you see, we have an big, blue, bouncy, excersice ball (we named billy) and smaller one (named billys baby haha idk we're losers) that we just have chill with us in our house. Everytime we walk in a room or wake up and come in the living room the balls are in a different position. (This; however, may just be a slight side effect of us kicking the balls around when we walk and not noticing in our non-sober stuper)

wow thats some weak shit haha, but
Thats as close as I'm gonna get to a ghost story.

i dont believe in ghosts, but i do have one thing that has to this day confused me.

at our old house, built in 1923 (famous inventor built it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyd_Groff_Copeman ) yes, i name dropped. sue me.

anyways, i had a room that overlooked the back yard and one night, i saw something. no idea what it was, but it was blinking red light, and it landed in our back yard, behind my sisters old playhouse. id say aliens, but i only saw the light. and it was small. no idea what it was. none. but normally i have a solution for everything. this i dont.
