Let's see what happens in 3-4 seasons if they haven't sniffed a playoff win yet.

I'm optimistic that they'll be fine, and 15k in Manitoba is better than 13K in Atlanta, but if they're pissing away money, it's a ticking time bomb waiting to happen.

im fully confident theyll upgrad MTS to 17,000 seats. its not that hard to do. therefore, they can sell cheaper seats and more seats.. fill a larger arena.

I did like that 3rd article Phil posted about how youth hockey has grown in these cities...I didn't know that and that's pretty cool. I still don't like the Southern expansion, but its more my annoyance with the fans of those teams that are a bit on the fairweather side.

That's exactly what I've been saying about the area around me, we don't see all these young fans who are actually playing the game in the area the team is at.

It gets a lot of people into the sport, and when those kids grow up, they are fans for life.

Too bad for Atlanta though. Losing two teams.

Yeah, after doing a lot of research with hard numbers and interviews and et cetera, my stance on the southern expansion has softened greatly. I still think the Panthers won't work, but that's because even with a winning team their arena is 45 minutes from Miami and even further from any other major city.

I trust you, but I don't subscribe to THN anymore, and I've yet to see anything reported that said adding seats was a condition.

i dont buy the bullshit that the team "gets kids into the game." fuck that noise. it may work somewhat, but what about places where its loved? they are taking teams away from cities where hockey is more then just a sport. hockey is the culture. bringing hockey back to its glory days, where its beloved... its the step in the right direction.

fuck southern expansion. its a failed experiment, and hopefully we are beginning to see the end of it.

Word on the street (Dregger, I'll find the link in time) is that it will be easy to expand the MTS Centre, in no problem. Also, the building was built with such anticipation, if needed. They're not far off from what the Devils take in on any given night so to anticipate at least another 2000 isn't that much of a shot in the dark.

all they have to do is replace the seats with narrower seats. 1 inch narrower. doesnt seem like much, but add one seat to each row, in every section. whammo.

thats what they did in orlando.
