That is really impressive.
I would expect True North tries to expand that arena ASAP.

i doubt it too. theres 2 teams WAY ahead of them. columbus is up there too. the isles may move, but it could be to the new barclays arena in brooklyn. so i dont consider that moving, per say.

people keep saying how the southern expansion is "growing the sport." well maybe nascar should move some southern races to the north.. you know, grow the "sport."

I'm no Nascar fan, but you do realize almost half the races are held in the North?

Also, Why would True North make the arena bigger for? I'm betting they contract it to make the tickets more premium and expensive.

Report: Winnipeg team will not keep Dudley
Saturday, 06.04.2011 / 9:02 PM / News
By Dan Rosen - NHL.com Senior Writer
Share
According to report from ESPN.com, Rick Dudley has been informed that he will not be retained as the general manager of the Winnipeg franchise should the Board of Governors approve the purchase and relocation of the Atlanta Thrashers to True North Sports and Entertainment.

Dudley reportedly met with True North chairman Mark Chipman in Toronto at the NHL Combine earlier this week. Dudley signed a four-year contract extension with the Thrashers in January.

Dudley was hired as the Thrashers general manager on April 24, 2010. He was able to secure former Blackahwks Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd in the offseason. Both players got off to hot starts and Byfuglien was an All-Star and early Norris Trophy candidate, but the Thrashers season fizzled and the team finished in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with 80 points.

The new Winnipeg franchise hit its mark of 13,000 season tickets sold on Saturday. The Board of Governors will meet June 21 in New York, where they will vote to approve the purchase and relocation.

Heck i say sign him to buffalo as an assistant GM. Dudley has a huge passion for scouting, and a lot of people think he's good. Plus he lives locally. I mean Why not the rich get richer here in Buffalo. A lot of people think the Sabres Drafting has been spectacular and it's been good. So why not add another respected guy to the staff. Let the Rich get richer. I mean Boston got Seguin thanx to toronto when they already had a crop of talent. Plus i'm sure a lot of people would say the sabres could use help in the european scouting department.

absolutely not. they wont reduce seating. lets price our fans right out of the building? no. theyll probably increase capacity, and get more people in. because if that team struggles, whose gonna want to pay more for tickets?

Could it be the Winnipeg Whiteout?

Ladies and gentlemen, your Winnipeg or Manitoba Whiteout!

It’s possible, and the reality is at the moment it’s the only thing the team could legally call themselves.

That’s what 6282980 Manitoba Limited Partnership (the legal name of the group who purchased the Atlanta Thrashers) registered as a trademark with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office on May 4, 2011 for one stated purpose only “Entertainment services in the field of professional ice hockey” - and as of today’s date it’s the only thing they’ve registered. Application number 1526249, go ahead, look it up.

Lets face it, it’s clear this group is not interested in returning to the name Winnipeg Jets, they made that obvious from the start – if it were to be called the Winnipeg Jets they would’ve said so right away. Manitoba Moose? It’s still possible but my source was wrong about 2 of the 3 things I was told in that conversation, so… I’m not liking the odds on the third one. The Whiteout, which would be different, does make sense from a historical perspective in the city – it was the tradition the fans of the Jets started during the playoff runs the club had in the 1990′s, there’s a tie-in with ice and winter (and boy does Winnipeg ever get winter), you could make a hockey player-blizzard-whiteout conditions connection in there too without much effort.

I’ll admit, yes, it’s likely that they purchased the term to legally own the name of this Winnipeg tradition in anticipation of owning a NHL team there but still… it’s not much of a stretch. The team already has 13,000 fans locked in for at least 3 seasons; people can’t turn away at this point if they don’t like the name, plus why name the team Jets or Moose? Fans already have merchandise, that’s money the owners lose by sticking with an established identity in jersey and various other sales.

A Winnipeg Whiteout, for those who are unaware, is when the fans of the Winnipeg Jets dressed in white during home playoff games – it certainly took off across the North American professional sports world after they started it. The tradition stuck with the Jets franchise in Phoenix where fans there still don white during their home playoff games.

I’d be interested to hear what the fans out there think about this name – Manitoba Whiteout? Winnipeg Whiteout? Add your comments below, honestly the more I hear it the better it sounds… just good luck to whoever has to make the logo for it.

I'm two time zones over and on the wrong side of the 49th parallel and I'd help riot in the Peg is that's the team's nickname. BLECH.

Was thinking why not the rich get richer philosophy. Buffalo is good at drafting, especially recently. Dudley has a passion for drafting. Make him like an assistant GM. Dudley gets to continue to build his resume and not sit on his hands while waiting for another job (figure of speech i don't think he will actually be sitting on his hands), and buffalo gets another strong talent evaluator to their scouting staff. I would think Regier would be able to realize that it would be good for the team and not feel like he has a potential replacement over his shoulder and even if he does fuck him, he's not the owner or the president. Plus maybe having that potential replacement over his shoulder won't result in as many Marek Zagrapan's, or trades that make your head spin. Keep Darcy on his toes. Plus with the example of zagrapan it shows the Sabres could use help in the European drafting department (Though if you watch the interview with mika Zibanejad after the combine he mentions buffalo as one of his stops). Since i mention the trades the sabres could use help there too. Darcy doesn't like to get screwed over. Dudley brought in Ladd and Byfuglien in a trade that seemed fair to a lot of people.

Plus Dudley lives locally.

No need. That story was quickly and in no uncertain terms debunked. (Emphasis mine.)

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports ... 12243.html

Quote:
A story making the rounds Sunday about the new Winnipeg NHL team's name missed the mark. The website http://www.sportslogos.net posted a story Saturday that True North had registered the name "Whiteout" and proposed it was the only thing the new team could be called.
A few media outlets reportedly bit on the story but it was discounted Sunday by True North's Scott Brown.
True North, in fact, has registered the name "Whiteout" with the Canadian Trade-marks Database of the federal government. It did so on May 4.
But it has done so, Brown said, only to protect future use of the phrase or term if and when it's needed. The whiteout was the mark of playoff fever in the NHL's previous stay in Winnipeg.
Brown said that Whiteout will not be the new name of the Winnipeg NHL team.

No announcement on what it will actually be is expected today.

I read on TSN that some fans would like to see the name "Manitoba" in there.

Kevin Cheveldayoff has been offered the job to the Winnipeg/Manitoba Whatever's, seems like it could be a good move. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=367987

Man, if they don't name them the Jets it just wouldn't seem right. Just my two cents.
