...and Briere, Hartnell and Richards have no trade clauses. I bet Philly is praying for a big cap raise.

Imagine if salaries keep going up like they have been in the last 5 years. $5 million for Carter could be like, half of Gerbe's salary by 2020!

This is from the site you linked Sabretoothpick. 2007-2008 is the last year they have a comprehensive list like the one you linked. But even if we look at the two years between 06 and 08, I think you'll see what I mean.

2005-06:
1 Jagr Jaromir RW New York Rangers $8,360,000.00
100 Timonen Kimmo D Nashville Predators $2,470,000.00
200 Tucker Darcy C Toronto Maple Leafs $1,596,000.00

2007-2008:
1 Gomez, Scott C New York Rangers $10,000,000.00 (120% of highest salary from 06)
100 Hemsky, Ales RW Edmonton Oilers $3,600,000.00 (146% of #100's salary from 06)
200 Skrastins, Karlis D Florida Panthers $2,400,000.00 (150% of #200's salary from 06)

I'm positive 2010-2011 salaries would be even higher. Need I go on?

I saw your point when I looked up the salary cap. I didn't know it started at 39mil. Accounting inflation we would be at around 44mil today and not 59mil. That's why I deleted my post.

That's not a bad thing. It's actually pretty good for the team that acquires him. A cap hit like that will be average or below in about three years, at least for a top two center. In fact, even though it's phucking Philly I'm starting to think it'd be a great trade for Butler/Sekera, prospect+2nd/1st.

Just one last point here on salary inflation. Average salary in 05-06 (1st season after lockout) was $1.46 million. In the 2010-11 season, average salary was $2.4 million. That's 164% of the 05-06 average.

I know this is wishful thinking on my part, but that would net Philly almost $6 million in cap space. The fact that Carter is signed long term is balanced by the fact that Coburn becomes an UFA after next season.

Not bad the Sabres would take care of both of there needs with this trade. But you got to find someone else other than Kassian. There's no way that guy leaves. He's going to destroy players when he's NHL ready. And Montador is UFA so I'm not sure why he is included unless just trading his rights. I'd include a couple of our RFA defensemen in the trade, and sign a James Wisnewski or someone of that type during free agency.

If Bryz is looking to get a $6 million a year deal than the Flappers will have no choice but to trade away a contract. I feel that Briere's will be more trade-able since his deal is shorter than Carter's.

I didn't just mean Montador's rights. So substitute either Morrison or Leopold for Montador. I'm not sold on Kassian as anything but "potential" as of now, so I'd be happy to see him go if the Sabres got a proven performer in return.

Briere has a no move clause which means he couldn't even be waived as far as I know (if he doesn't want to).

Briere's cap hit is way higher too, so I think Carter would be far easier for them to trade.
