If Lidstrom retires next week (which is when he's reported to be making his decision), the Wings don't have a choice - they have to look at 3 maybe 4 defensemen as their priority. They don't have time to look at Jagr unless he's willing to take a lowball offer and even then, his complete and utter lack of defense still makes him an odd fit for Detroit.

It'll be good for the league I guess to have Jags back. He can go for that 1,600th NHL point and maybe stick around long enough to get 700 goals and 1,000 assists.

I just hope he isn't terrible when he comes back, since it seems like he's convinced himself he's still good enough to play here.

He was still good enough when he left, so I don't know why he did.

He's good enough to play, but not good enough to be a top player or a valuable teammate, or stick to whatever system the coach implements. If my team signed him, the very first practice I would grab him by the hair, kick the shit out of him, and then cut it off like Brutus The Barber Beefcake. Tell him he's going to be a team player or get his ass beat again tomorrow.

Gotta find the link, but Jagr recently said he doesn't care about playing in the NHL...his main concern is keeping the Czech hockey team that he owns 70% of afloat.

According to Lebrun, there are three options Jagr is looking at - NYR, DET, and staying in the KHL.

Yep, just saw that. IMO, as long as the KHL is on Jagr's mind, he's not going to give his all in the NHL. Until he rules out the KHL and the much bigger payday he'll get there, NHL teams should stay away from him.

Salary cap issues...plus it seemed that Jagr had become an enigma
