More McKee...he thinks the Sabres should offer up Connolly's rights to Calgary to get the Flames to send more to Buffalo than just Regehr. (I don't think he knows that at this point, it's rumored Regehr isn't the only Flame that would come to Buffalo)

That's good from our perspective, but I don't see Calgary (or any team) trading for a UFA's rights unless it's a top player (Bryzgalov, Brad Richards). Like EH and I have said, Calgary wants cap space, so I doubt that Connolly ends up part of the deal. Connolly (if he is leaving Buffalo anyway, which I assume) won't be set on taking a significant pay cut until the market dictates it to him after July 1st.

I like the idea of acquiring Regehr. I think this would be a very good pairing for Myers. Tough, healthy veteran D-man to help the young defensemen along. I wouldn't want them to give up too much in the way of forwards, however. The Sabres are thin up front. A plethora of defensemen already on the roster, with some nice prospects coming up the pipeline. Those are the assets to use, not where you're already thin. I mean, I could see trading forward prospects for a current forward, or something along those lines, but trading forwards for a D-man, doesn't seem like the way to go.

Of course, my experience with drafting, prospects and trades is seriously lacking.

I wouldn't hate to see Sekera or Butler and perhaps a 3rd rounder or other prospect go to seal this deal, but I wouldn't want to ship out Weber, neither would I want to lose Gerbe. And a 1st rounder? I don't think it warrants that either.

As to trading Gerbe now while his value is high, I like that thinking. But then again, I don't know just how much other GMs are valuing Gerbe themselves, so if the return is mediocre for his value now, I'd rather they hand on to him. He's the type of guy I like on the team because of his work ethic and attitude. He may not be "the answer", but he doesn't fit into the soft, fragile-psyche heartless player mold we've all been criticizing this team for over the past 3 or 4 years.

I will be pissed if Adam or Weber are going the other way. I feel that Butler or Sekera and a 3rd rounder would be more than enough. This team has only a handful of forward prospects and can't afford to give up Adam when he has only 1 year of pro hockey under his belt. If Calgary needs to cut Salary than this is a perfect time to grab a player that can help without giving up to much.

Just read that other teams are waiting to hear if he'll waive. They'll mkae offers if he doesn't. Buffalo could have a deal to land Sarich if Regher declines.

I don't know. Buffalo was always near the bottom of the list of teams players wanted to play for. But for those that actually lived in the area or saw something other than the shit part of Buffalo between the airport and the Arena and hotel, it always got good reviews. Now you can take all the crap from (mis)management under the Regises and Golisano and do a 180 with all the class from Pegula. I would think Buffalo would be an attractive market for an NHL player.

If Darcy only gives up like a middle of the road prospect or an older guy for Roybn Regehr I'd be fore him coming here but, if the flames want a guys like gerbe, adam or even BZK don't do it.

i also read on twitter (one of the TSN guys but i forget who) that Regehr has also talked to former teammates of his that played for Buffalo (i.e. Lydman, Leopold, Drury, Warrener, Mondator) some of those guys would help get him to buffalo... others i think might hurt...

I think if we move Sekera/Butler + McNabb/Brennan/Biega + our 2nd rounder in 2012, that should do it.

Calgary wants to shed salary and get younger. That accomplishes both...

Myers + Regehr has my foaming at the mouth

Think he goes with #24? (28 is taken by Goose). He was #24 in Kamloops..

To me Gerbe is the ideal third liner. About 1.5M (which is what I think he'll get), a 15/15 guy with the potential to hit 20/20 with speed and hustle. He's like a fast, small, skilled version of gaustad without the retarded cost for a skill that doesn't matter on the third line.

Your beyond crazy if u think Gerbe will only be a 3rd liner the kids still developing and 2-3 years time he'll become one of the best on the Sabres if notthe league itself.

On anOther note I was hoping Darcy making pitch for Bouwmeester instead of Reghr

1. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I think his ceiling is a 2nd liner who produces around 40 points and brings a ton of intangibles.

2. Bouwmeester has a horrific contract. I would rather have Regehr.

Bouwmeester spent too much time in hockey hell (Florida). He's mentally borked just like other former Panthers Olli Jokinen and Roberto Luongo.
