In fairness, every player from around 6 on up had significant weaknesses. There were no impact players left for Buffalo, and no center that could help for at least two years. So any center wouldn't have helped anyway.

It clearly comes down to what can happen via trade or FA, and this draft pick wouldn't change that.

Nobody thinks Phillips or McNeil (my choice) are going to contribute this season, and likely not next as an impact player either.

Here is my only question I have when drafting a player is about his skating. Skating is going to make or break you.

Okay, I'm going to try and look at this pick from a rational viewpoint.

Armia has some things that can't be taught; he's got a big body, one of the best shots in the draft and very good offensive awareness. He can be coached to play more aggressive and use his big frame more. It might even be that he doesn't play too physical because he hasn't completely grown into his body yet. Once he spends a bit more time developing and building onto his frame, this kid can tear it up, which is what I think the Sabres are banking on. He's got a lot of potential upside, but they're rolling the dice on this pick.

As for Koko, he's ranked 44th, so he can't be that much better (if at all) than Armia (not that I like the pick).
