We kept our 2nd and gained one for next year. I'm good now.

The real Darcy Regier has entered the building.

Can't wait for GDT's misspelling "Meyers" and "Regeer"

The rumors were, we were giving up Butler, Byron and our 2012 2nd. so we kept our 2nd and got another one. That is what I meant.

okay, so for the serious talk about Kotz. I personally don't think he should have a place on the roster but what is the feel from you guys?

I think he needs his own thread. This could get ugly.

I hate Kotalik, there is no way he should even be in the NHL

Regier didn't fleece Calgary. This is a very fair trade, except that Pegula's deep pockets and willingness to eat a contract gives Buffalo a very unusual advantage. As long as Pegula owns the team and is willing to eat contracts, Buffalo could under pay player-wise in any deal, but make up the difference by also taking a bad contract off the other team's hands. Rochester would end up with the biggest payroll in the minors, and the Sabres wouldn't suffer any cap hits.

That's something that even idiots like Sather can't do, or deep pocket big markets like Toronto and Philly won't do. We could really have an edge in trades now.

Perfect scenario: Kotalik traded to FLA to reach cap floor, Soupy feeds Kotalik one-timers on the PP all day, Sabres aren't on the hook at all for Kotalik. Won't happen, but I'm just dreamin' over here.

How you think this is a fair trade is beyond me. Butler was basically useless and all though Byron was not bad can actually be replaced and to top it off they get a second round pick?? Calgary was fleeced IMO

BUF GM Darcy Regier says he will not buy out final year of Ales Kotalik's deal. "We expect him to compete for a job."

I'm ok with that. If he sucks, it's a-Rochester he's going

As for the players involved, not considering cap hit...we clearly win. Butler stunk up until the end of the season. He got a ton of minutes against Philly and I started to have hope, but Regehr is so much of an upgrade that Byron is an after thought, and the 2nd rd pick makes up for him.

Byron wasn't going to be an impact any time soon, Butler is a bottom four d-man. We get a top four (top two) d-man, a 2nd rd pick, and a solid AHL player that will never affect our cap.

Also, don't assume Regehr is Myers partner. Leopold and Regehr were partners for a few years in Calgary, and Montador will be gone.

My hunch is Montador comes back and the pairs will be:
Regehr/Myers
Leopold/Montador
Gragnani/Weber

I honestly don't mind that so much.
