i dont get why people are de-crediting regehr already. of course his type of play takes a serious wear on the body but he's still got it in him. plus he instantly becomes at the very least a top 4 dman on our team. this is a great trade.

a small sized prospect, and a defenseman who was probably rushed into the league too early and didnt develop as well as he really could have for a top 4 guy(potentially our top 2) is incredible.

just by saying that this wasnt a fleece deal or a really good trade by regier kind of makes it seem like he's getting decredited. i dunno just my thinking, i guess.

This is Darcy's best deal in years. How can't people like this. They get a tough stay at home shutdown defenseman and a 2nd rounder for Chris Butler and Paul Byron are you kidding me. Butler isn't that good and Byron weighs 150 pounds. What's not to like about this deal and I didn't even talk about Kotalik.

Then, to hawk your screen name...youdontgetit. It's a good trade, but by no means an OMG-what-a-steal trade. I already explained it pretty well above, and it has nothing to do with how good Regehr is.

It's a steal trade no matter how you look at it. Regehr is a shutdown d-man that we needed plus we get a 2nd rounder which should be pretty high since Calgary won't make the playoffs. Butler we have a ton of d-man coming in the next couple of years and Butler isn't that good. Byron the guy weighs 150 pounds are you kidding me. He wouldn't last a couple of years in this league especially in the playoffs.

but this is darcys best trade since before the lockout, and quite frankly with what we've dealt with in the last 5 years, this is an omg what a steal sort of trade.

and as far as calgary getting the cap relief by getting rid of kotaliks contract, they could have buried him in the minors and not had to worry about his cap hit. he did just find in abbottsford, i hear. also, even on calgary message boards people are talking about how supposedly al has been rumored to be going to europe to play-- which would have made him entirely a non-issue for them either way.

Both sides accomplished what they wanted. But the Sabres got a lot in return. In a way, it was a steal for the Sabres, but because Calgary was so desperate to dump cap. Well done, Darcy.

Stop man.

You explained your opinion on the deal. Others (including myself) have a different view on it. Don't act like your position is the only correct one here.

Calgary didn't just get Butler and Byron...they got rid of a 3mil deadweight cap hit that they can now use for a good and productive player. Getting rid of that contract was worth more than the 2nd rd they sent to Buffalo. Assuming Calgary gets a legit 3 mil player to replace Kotalik, that's worth way more than a 2nd rd pick.

You just can't wrap your head around what the cap relief means for Calgary. How would you feel about this trade if Kotalik ends up on the roster all season and scores 10 lousy goals at a 3 mil cap hit? Think about that real hard and tell me what it means to get out from under that shitract.

I'm not dumb. I can fucking read. Now you've made me angry.

I understand that Calgary got cap relief. I just am not valuing it as high as you are.

Drop your attitude.

hahahaha...thought you guys would enjoy some quotes from Calgary fans about this:

Quote:
I feel like rioting.

Quote:
...Does Feaster also have a bottle of lube coming our way from Buffalo in this trade?

Quote:
Buffalo should have at least gave us a cigarette too!

Quote:
the announcement at the draft was reggie, kotalik and 2nd for buffalo crap

Quote:
What the hell just happened? Are they on crack?

Quote:
I can only imagine that Kotalik will now return to being a 30 goal scorer in Buffalo.

Quote:
Just wow. I've tried to stay positive but this organization is an absolute mess right now. This is just an awful, awful trade. Everyone who laughed at the Oilers should apologize because the Flames are now the punchline for any NHL-related joke.

Kotalik will be lucky if he's in a sabres uniform this year. Regehr and the 2nd rounder were the trade. Kotalik was just the dead-weight. Wow Darcy finally makes a great move and your complaining about the money Kotalik is eating up. Wow

Was better than that.

Butler for Regehr/ Kotalik was the primary trade. Feaster really wanted Byron too, so Darcy made him throw in the 2nd.

Squanto, I responded not because people didn't agree with me, but because it was assumed that I thought the trade was bad or that I don't think Regehr is good enough. That's a big misunderstanding, and I'm not being an ass about it. The screen name thing was a convenient joke, and I don't think (hope) it was taken as an insult.

You can make that point without asking people if they can read, or saying they 'can't wrap their head around' something.

Sabresfansince1980 this was Darcy's best trade in years. Even if your not to keen on Kotalik's salary. I don't think he will be on the team next year anyways. Bryon is way too damn small weight wise to last in the nhl. And Butler isn't that good. We have ton's of d-man coming so Butler is expendable.

I'm not complaining about Kaotalik's contract, unless he actually is on the roster all year (which I doubt). I'm trying (in vain) to explain what a benefit it is for Calgary to get rid of Kotalik's cap hit.

Also, I've been bitching about Bulter for a long time now. He showed some improvement at the end of the season, but I'm still hapy he got sent rather than Weber or anyone else beside Sekera. I never had much hope for Byron either.
