I can't think of a single commander I have ever had that would have given an Honor Gaurd member paperwork for walking over and popping one of those people with the butt of their M-1. I'm glad I never had them show up at a funeral I proceeded over as an Honor Guard NCO because the crew I had would have probably done something stupid....haha!

I saw a video of Bam Margera visiting the crash site with other friends and family and it was heartbreaking. He was beside himself and when he was being interviewed he could barely get a word out because he was so distraught.

It's just so sad...my friend died in a drunk driving accident in February and it's still surreal when I see her pictures and realize that she's gone. It's also sad to look ahead to the future and realize all the things they are never going to experience. It just makes you think.

I don't have it anymore, but I'm sure if you google it you will find it. It was a local news station report. It's kind of messed up actually, it looks like they filmed him at the site without his knowledge (looked like the camera was hidden in the grass) and it seemd really intrusive. :/ But obviously he agreed to be on camera for an interview.

Also, Westboro never showed up.

I was kinda hoping Bam would have fucked them up. I bet they thought they would be subject of Jackass-esque situation.

^^I was hoping so badly they would have shown up. And a lot of them have a lot of well known substance abuse problems that they have put behind them. I am just hoping that none fall back into their drug abuse, most notably Steve-O.

I had heard a story about a soldiers funeral, in I want to say the state of South Carolina, and its citizens blocked every access route with their cars/ trucks. Apparently a few Westboro douches had words with its residents and they were taken into alleys and came back with mysterious bruises all over their bodies. They tried to press charges but apparently the cops didn't give a fuck.

If you ever get the chance to fuck up a Westboro protest, be very, very careful. There are a bunch of lawyers in this clan. They have financed most of their protests through settlements and punitive damages resulting from people infringing on their right of free speech during their protests.

Agreed. I have a friend like this... He's only ever wrecked his own car, and everybody jokes about it because every time he repairs it again (typically gets it from being near-totaled to looking at least decent again, though it wouldn't be legal to still have the car in NY) he gets into another wreck... Last year he almost hit another friend and me as well as another car head on when, upon nearly hitting the other car going about 60 mph, he spun out and ended up facing us as we were driving behind him, and if my friend who was driving wasn't so quick to react... stuff like that all the time... Everybody jokes, but it's scary because I honestly don't expect him to live past 25.

Soapbox moment...

I used to care more about telling people how naive or unaware they are about how dangerous DWI is. Some of the comments here so far verify how mostly younger people just don't get it. Other people in general don't get it well after they have perfected their alcholism well after their 30s and 40s. Everyone who drinks on a regular basis and has risked driving should have the pleasure of responding to a fatal accident. I'll tell you, it never bothered me having to step around the dead person that was DWI, or reach around their bloody wreckage, especially when they were the only fatality.

What impails sanity, thought, and consideration into your mind is when you have to do those same things with the poor guy/girl in the other vehicle, the poor kid that just got spread across the road, or tell their family about it. I like to drink too, but I'd never risk someone else's life over my stupid decision. So this guy is just another dumbass that got what was logically coming to him eventually when you risk DWI and high speeds. Problem is he killed someone else in the process. How do people pan that off as just a bad choice, or minimize that in whatever fashion?

It would be a bad choice to walk down the street shooting pistol rounds off indiscriminantly, but would anyone cut him slack for killing someone in a house he didn't "mean" to shoot? Sorry, but DWI isn't any less wrong, because the risk level is actually pretty close. I don't try to persuade anyone anymore, I watched enough blank stares back in my face while I spoke to high school classes. Nobody ever gets it until they lose a friend or family member, and even then some people don't change their own habits or thoughts.

As far as I'm concerned, his friend willingly got into the car with him. That doesn't make Dunn any worse a person and makes that person just as at fault, IMO.

And what about the risk to other drivers or pedestrians? Dunn and his equally at fault passenger didn't kill anyone else, but the risk was there. Are we to feel less for those DWI drivers that kill other drivers/peds, but better about those that didn't?

What's your point, SF1980? No one in this thread is excusing Dunn's decision to drink and drive or trying to downplay the stupidity and selfishness of doing so.

His point was getting something off his chest - a soapbox moment...

There's been a little bit of downplay in this thread, but nothing I choose to get specific and into an argument over with anyone. I was just relaying how too many people don't take the risk of DWI and reckless driving in general seriously enough until after disaster, and even then still sometimes not.

It's not like walking up to someone and pulling a trigger with malice, but it's equally reckless and irresponsible, and the loved ones left don't feel any less pain. Yet, we still don't have the sufficient amount of societal shame or punishment for this behavior. In North Carolina, for example, the DWI conviction rate over a ten year period was pretty damn low, and I can offer my personal accounts of how lock-tight DWI cases have been dismissed or found not guilty in trials by judge. It doesn't make sense...until you look up the judges driving record and find out just how many times he's been pulled over...
