When asked by Howard Simon if giving a longer-term deal would be a possibility given the track record of the team, Regier said that times have changed as "it’s something we have not considered in the past." Another option the team has for acquiring players would be to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets. However, Regier said "we focused more on unrestricted free agency. We have talked about offer sheets but that is more unlikely...They are going to be matched."

Quote:
Regier also gave the fans a little insight into the team's plans over the next few weeks saying that the Sabres would try to sign multiple free agents and would be active in any trading market before or after the start of unrestricted free agency July 1st. The Sabres' GM said that any acquisitions a center would be an "upgrade" and that the team plans to sign an "experienced" defenseman. The team has also had conversations trying to keep Tim Connolly and Cody McCormick.

What I took away from the interview:
- Offer sheets and long-term deals were more of a Goli/Quinn issue and not a Regier issue.
- Admitting Connolly is now looked at as a defensive center feels like he's signing for less or he's outta here
- Glad to hear they've talked to McCormick
- Love hearing they want another veteran defenseman (Hannan could be a good fit)
- He pretty clearly said he's going after big names. When have we ever heard him say that?

I think I love being a Sabres fan again....and the season hasn't even started!!!! That being said....when it comes to defensive experience I say we call Teppo back.....hahaha!

I really would like to see us go after guys like Leino, Laich, Knuble and Eager. (I also want Drew Miller just because I think it would BE SWEET!) As for Defense I agree with Hannan and man would I cream if we got Kaberle.

Leino and Hannan or Wisnewski puts us in the top 15% of teams immediately.

just finished listening to it. it was actually a really good interview. i'm real excited for friday, and after, to see what darcy does now.

also hearing there WILL be an upgrade at center was a relief. he sounds confident about it. and for once i believe its possible.

also, what about ehrhoff as another dman option ? i think he'd be another good option for buffalo, plus having jochen on the team, whos hes played with plenty on international teams over the past few years, might help to coax him to leave the nucks.

Hannan and Wiz are the two d-men I want the Sabres to pursue as well. Ville Leino is a gamer and if a winger has to leave in a trade for a center, I want Leino or to a lesser extent Laich to be the guy to fill that hole.

Reading minds, Pat. Reading minds.

About Miller? What are the chances Ryan's influence and the change in managment makes that an actual possibility?

Laich, and Leino could help out offensively immensely.

Leino is a RFA that comes cheap considering his value to the team. I seriously doubt he's going anywhere because the fact that Philly has players like him (young, cheap, good) had to be a major reason the Flyers traded Carter and Richards. Don't get your hopes up on that front.

a winger should leave. poms is making too much for a second line winger who has lost effectiveness on the pp. he is still good on the PK of course. but i think we'd be better served sending him or boyes away in a trade for a center. bringing Leino in also will help weaken a still strong Philly team that has the advantages in the playoffs on us.

Boyes isn't going anywhere. Pomminville is almost untradeable.

I don't think I've ever been more excited for an offseason as a Sabres fan

I think the problem with Pominville on the PP is how he's used, personally. At the halfwall, his one-timer is retarded. At the point, we feel like he's retarded. But, gotta give talent to get talent and Pominville is an attractive option for rebuilding teams to add talent and get to the cap floor.

If Buffalo is willing to give $3million to Kotalik, someone has to be willing to give almost twice as much for Pominville. To go with Phil's line of thought, Florida is looking o take on salary. Let the Pominville for Weiss threads start!

Wow. I think I am again excited about being a Sabres fan. My enthusiasm has waned a bit the past two seasons. Not anymore.

I agree that Pominville is almost untradeable but if he's an attractive option to teams who have players the Sabres want, ya gotta think they'll do it. I'd prefer he stays and Boyes, Stafford, or Ennis become trade options.

sorry, squanto, no one is untradeable. if we want to give pommers a chance in a role that works for him, that's fine. if we want to cut money and free spots for other wingers and improve other areas, he can be traded. i know you're referring to contract, but things change when other things are added....draft picks, etc.
