why ennis?

Because you gotta give talent to get talent and he's going to bring in the best return. Young, talented, RFA next season, plays LW but could go back to playing C (his natural position).

id rather keep the youth we have who are long term assets. but thats me. id run a team rather conservatively when it came to picks and prospects and youngins.

I wouldn't trade Ennis. It's hard to find a speedy guy who can pass AND score.

I said a couple months ago to not be surprised if Connolly is offered a deal to stay. He would be a great 3rd line C as long as the price is around 2.5 mil. I've been talking about Brad Richards a lot, but I know that's unlikely due to his own preferences. Considering that, re-signing Connolly and looking for a Laich type guy, or trading Hecht or Pominville (if at all possible) for a legit top center would be another solid route to take.

I of course love to hear that the d-corps is not done yet. Adding another and carrying 8, or trading away Morrisonn and using his cap elsewhere sounds great to me. Wisniewski, Bieksa (doubtful), Ehrhoff, and I agree Hannan also would be fine additions.

sorry, squanto, no one is untradeable. if we want to give pommers a chance in a role that works for him, that's fine. if we want to cut money and free spots for other wingers and improve other areas, he can be traded. i know you're referring to contract, but things change when other things are added....draft picks, etc.

Sheldon Souray and Wade Redden are virtually untradeable...

But there are teams that would persue a player like Pominville. Florida Panthers and Phoenix Coyotes are 2 teams that would and need scoring help this offseason and could be the perfect options for us to unload a contract or 2. Plus they also need to get over that "Cap Floor."

Also I know I've mentioned this before but besides Hannan, Wisnewski and Leino any interest in Joel Ward? I think the guys awesome players. He's tough and could score plus he just had a great playoffs. I know not to over rate the guy just on the playoff performance but I really think he would help the team get that cup. Also Bieksa wouldn't be bad either. But 1st things 1st we need a #1 centerman.

That's a fair statement. I know he's not totally untradeable, but it would very difficult. In addition to the contract, he has a limited NMC, so that complicates matters that much more.

I just can't imagine many teams taking on his salary based on his overall play. Then again, Campbell got moved with that monstrosity... :)

I still like Pominville. I hope he doesn't go anywhere.

Well it looks like Kevin Bieska is up the free agent list. Which I had a feeling that was going to happen. Why do I have this strange feeling Buffalo goes after Erik Cole from Carolina. I wouldn't mind Laich or Jokenin or even Leino. It should be interesting Friday!

I like him too, but if they can get rid of his $5.3 million a year deal, then wow, they got to do it. You don't pay a dude that much to score 20ish goals a season.

I'm assuming you mean he's off the free agent list.

Too bad, I was hoping we could snag him.

Has anybody noticed the amount of sign-and-trades that have been happening?

Setoguchi signs, traded the next day.

Darrel Powe signed, traded the same day.

Both to Minnesota, by the way. You'd think their GM had no clue how to sign players, so he has other teams do it for him...

Regier had a small presser at the arena today. I'll recap via Bill Hoppe's tweeted bits.
- Schutz only RFA not tendered a QO (not a surprise)
- Montador and Mancari are likely hitting the open market
- Regier not planning on trading for RFA rights
- Trying to bring Armia in for rookie camp next month
- Sabres in competition for free agents but good FAs are scarce this year.

Also
- Team will decide whether or not they're going to talk to Grier and Nieds until after the FA rush.

Sounds like they're only signing them if they're desperate. Given how full the roster is without them, I doubt it happens.

I think Grier is going to retire.

listened to the radio interview today.. and darcy seems confident that he'll be able to upgrade at center..and that he also wants to get another d-man... but also says that FA is thin.. that makes me think he is already working on a trade for center.. and is hoping to get the d-man in FA.. maybe spezza but i don't see Ottawa trading him in the division, unless we overpay... more likely we get some one outta the west

I think it'll be Pavelski if a trade does happen

Any particular reason you're thinking that way?

(Just curious if there is a rumor going around I hadn't heard of)

No rumor, just using my logic. Spezza is the Sens' only good center and Alfie is likely retiring after this season, Stastny is part of the three-headed center monster in Denver with Duchene and O'Reilly, and Brad Richards will likely get snagged up by the Rangers after the Sabres drive up the price, Oshie is largely untested, and Stamkos will have any offer sheet matched by Stevie Y.

Meanwhile, with Big Joe and Marleau as 1 and 2 in San Jose and Logan Couture possibly emerging as a monster in his own right, Pavelski may just be a victim of San Jose's depth and be available for good assets.
