I think if we sign him, we move Sekera, and our Defense looks like:

Myers-Regehr
Ehrhoff-Leopold
Weber-Gragnani
and Morrisonn

or it spells the end for both of them, and we bring in a 7th man from the outside.

With teams struggling to get above the floor Morrisonn's 2+m cap hit makes him pretty movable even if it is just for one year.

If Sha-Mo's cap hit is 2.1 (rounding up a bit), and Rej would probably be in the 2.5-3 range, that's 4.6-5.1 as a cap hit. Unload them both and we could easily fit in Ehrhoff without taking on that much salary

This is totally doable

I'm absolutely sitting in my own shit happy right now that we're being so proactive. I love this...

I really like Ehrhoff very much except for the tiny detail that he's left handed, and we only have Myers as the only right handed d-man. I read that Ehrhoff had no intention of signing in NYI because he wants to be on a contender. My strong guess is that once Wisniewski was traded to Columbus and actually looked like a strong chance to sign there, Buffalo saw some urgency to get Ehrhoff. I'm positive that Buffalo wanted one of the two, so with the Wiz looking to be off the board and Ehrhoff telling NYI to get lost, BUffalo is swooping in hard.

I think Buffalo has a great chance to sign him, and Hecht will have a huge part of it, and also the quirky good luck of having a game in Germany to open the season may help as well. As for the cap, after all RFAs are signed and McCormick, Buffalo will have 57.5 mil toward 12 forwards, 7 d-men, and 2 goalies. That's about 6.5 mil in cap room. Take away Kotalik and it's 9.5 mil, take away Morrisonn and it's 11.5 mil. I'm sure Morrisonn is the odd d-man out if Buffalo wants to stay at 7 d-men, because Sekera should re-sign for around 1.5 mil and has much more use than Morrisonn. Wisniewski is going to sign for around 5-5.5 mil, so Ehrhoff should be in that range also. That would leave, without Kotalik and Morrisonn, at least 6 mil in cap room for a top center. Even though 23 is a full roster, Buffalo wouldn't have to use those extra spots. They could use call-ups as needed to fill a starting night roster and provide a little extra cap room. Other moves could be made too of course.

One thing we are not taking into consideration is a solid 3 defensive lines. This is going to help Miller out in ways we have never seen before. We know Miller can make the miracle saves and do them on a consistant basis. But having a staunch defense that is able to protect him will only spell good things. I am freggin pumped if this goes through.

This whole thing seems like it is to good to be true.

And I'd think Sekera's deal would look something like the one Gerbe got but at $2 mil a season. Three years $6-7 mil for him and Morrison leaving town in Kotaliks trunk and I'd be ready to call Brad Richards and offer him the world.....

If they sign him, Miller's going to have a wall around him next season

Hasek status. At least one other Vezina is not out of the question.

I've been almost ridiculous for the past year or more talking about stacking the d-corps. A very good to great top four d-corps has been a staple of every Stanley Cup team since the lock-out, if not prior to that. With Ehrhoff it would be...

Regehr-Myers
Leopold-Ehrhoff
Weber-Gragnani
Sekera (maybe Morrisonn)

That's pretty damn good...the best that I can remember for a looong time.

Kotalik- 3M
ShaMo- 2M
Boyes- 4M

There's 9 million in cap space right there, and a handful of teams that need to get to the cap floor...

That would be one of the top defensive corps in the league IMO

I don't think Ehrhoff is worth over 5 million a season are you kidding me. Don't get me wrong he's decent but not at over 5 million a year. I would rather use that money to get a top offensive player. I know I gonna hear it but I was really hoping Bieska would have hit free agency. Vancouver knew which defenseman to keep out of the two.

I love it too. If any of you heard Kevin OklsdfsghkjsghkjnbghklsdfnBzijA from the Rochester Newspaper on Schoop and the Bulldog today he hit the nail on the head.

"On July 1st in years past Sabres fans were worried about who they might lose or trying to re-sign their own players. With this new ownership people are starting to get energized about who we can ADD and not who's leaving...."

I'm sort of frightened at the amount of money this guy will require to sign. It seems imperative that we sign a top-tier center, and I don't want Ehrhoff to hinder that.

No, I don't think you're far off. I can't say Ehrhoff or my 1st choice Wisniewski is actually worth over 5 mil, but that's going to be the price for a top d-man right now. If we assume that Brad Richards isn't going to happen, 5.5 mil fits in quite nicely and still leaves room for a non-Richards top center by way of trade. If we actually do want Richards and make a huge play for him, we can go over the cap by 10% and figure a way back down later on. It would only take dumping Kotalik, Morrisonn, and probably another two mil somewhere. Someone else mentioned Boyes, but I really want to see him full time at RW, because he really is more valuable than what he showed filling in at center.

That's my only worry as well. I don't want this guy's contract to hinder signing someone else or one of our own players down the road.

Lots of activity. Really exciting time of year. If they can sign Ehrhoff, I really like our D. They may not have room for a real top flight center to add this offseason, but you really can't expect them to get everything this year. Centers after Richards are real thin. My guess is they either trade for a #1 center, or roll with what they got and address it next offseason (or perhaps later in the season).

But just because they don't get a #1 center, wouldn't they have to get somebody to come here to play center? Roy and Goose are your true centers. Hecht and Boyes can play there (but shouldn't). Who does that leave? I really think Boyes should be moved to wing.

1- Roy
2- ?
3- Hecht
4- Goose

Bring in two centers, to get Hecht back to the wing. But who do they get? Resign Connolly? I wouldn't ink him for more than 1 year. If not him, who? Sure, the D will be upgraded nicely, so offense will not be quite as pressing a need, but I still think they need more bodies at center. They can worry about getting a true #1 and sliding Roy down to #2 next offseason.

Ham

I really hope this means Shone Morrisonn and Steve Montador are done in a sabres uniform. I also hope they don't go crazy and sign him for 5.5 or 6 million a year because they still need forwards
