In the event that this is a "This or That" type situation, who gives us a bigger push: Richards or Ehrhoff?

I really hope this means Shone Morrisonn and Steve Montador are done in a sabres uniform. I also hope they don't go crazy and sign him for 5.5 or 6 million a year because they still need forwards

I think Montador and Morrisson are both done. And I totally agree 5.5-6 million is way too much. If they were going to spend that much they might as well have traded for soupy back.

The front office has this planned out, and probably for months now. They've seen what's happened in Chicago, and NJ, so they'll make sure we can get a top center and keep both Myers and Ennis.

We just need to cut the fat out, and we'll be fine, like I posted a little while ago,

1. We have 11 million in cap space right now
2. Unloading ShaMo + Kotalik= over 5 Million in cap space
3. If need be, move Boyes (although, I too would like to see what he can do as a full-time RW) = 4 million in cap space

That's 20 million dollars in cap space, if we need it bad enough

Plus Hecht and Goose come off the books next year at a 5.8 million combined cap hit, so we're laughing here...

I would rather have Richards, Leino, or Ericksson off detroit.

That was my thought as well. This should prove to be interesting...I'm very curious to see what Darcy has up his sleeves.

Yes, listen to Seanothan27, there is still enough cap room and enough time to sign Ehrhoff, make at least a play for Richards with a near best offer, and still make other moves to fit Richards in or just go to plan B at center. There are lots of possibilities with an owner that's willing to lose money.

Ehroff could be all right but he really did not look that great in the playoffs.

Ehrhoff, who was acquired from the Islanders for a fourth-round draft pick after New York was unable to sign him, has made one thing clear: He wants to play for a contender.

"His mind-set is to be with an organization that is looking at being a Stanley Cup contender, and being part of a group of players that are looking to win," Curran said. "The best way to put it is, 'I’ve left Vancouver, where we were knocking on the door for the Stanley Cup, and wherever I go I want to make sure that I have that same opportunity.'"

I don't quite understand the mindset of Ehrhoff here... you're one game away from winning the Stanley Cup with Vancouver, and you leave to find a team that's a contender? What? Obviously money is a bigger factor here, which sort of concerns me.

He was doing great until he hurt his shoulder at the beginning of the SC Finals. With how that went, every player's stats looked like garbage.

Thats probably the reason why he was taken last overall in 2002 draft

BigC24, not exactly. He knew that once Bieksa was signed, and with the other UFAs they have, that he really wasn't going to get the money he could on the market. Bieksa took a discount at 4.6 mil, and Ehrhoff would've had to take that to stay. Maybe he saw that as Vancouver's best shot anyway. How many teams go to the finals two years in a row? It's not often, so looking to stay with a contender AND get market value isn't questionable to me.

Looking at it from that point of view makes sense. If he thinks Vancouver reached their peak this season, then it isn't unreasonable for him to find a team on the rise to earn the money he wants AND compete for the cup again.

Here's hoping we're that team. (Only if it doesn't interfere with our bid for Richards)

He was injured in the playoffs. If it was the regular season, he wouldn't have even dressed for a good part of it.

Its still strange he wanted out if he wants to be on a contending team. I think he just wants money but that just me.

I still like seeing a Sabres team try and get half descent players

But isn't everyone essentially injured in the playoffs though??

Yeah, but some are going to be "more injured" than others
