Per Sabres.com:

The Buffalo Sabres have traded the negotiating rights of defenseman Steve Montador to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a seventh-round draft selection in the 2012 or 2013 Entry Draft. The Chicago draft pick was previously acquired from Florida in the Tomas Kopecky trade on Monday. The pick is presently conditional to the Nashville Predators. If that pick is not available, Florida will transfer their own seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Too bad... I really liked Montador.

I hope he does well wherever he lands. :)

Edit: As long as it's not at the expense of the Sabres. <_<

Huh??? Somebody actually wanted to trade for Montador's rights??? Good for us, he wasn't going to stay anyway. I suspect a 7th rd pick next year.

Excellent. Seemed pretty obvious the organization didn't want him back, but we still got something from him.

I liked Monty. It's too bad that it didn't work out for him here.

This is awesome. The Sabres are really showing that they are serious about being a contender for the Cup. Who knows if Ehrhoff will decide to sign here, but at least they took the gamble and are putting themselves out there. And now they trade away Montador's rights who wasn't going to sign here anyways so we get something in return.

Darcy is on FIAAAAAH.

I agree with the trade in our current state but people tend to forget Monty was beast for us in the regular season. Many wanted him to be captain.

Yeah, around Feb-Mar I was really hoping he'd be re-signed, but we're going in a much better direction, now and he's expendable

Good luck Monty!
Didn't work out here, but I honestly hope he has success wherever he may land. A good, hard working guy. Solid 4-6 defenseman.

And holy shit, what has gotten into Darcy? I really like this whole no constraints thing. Thank you mr. Pegula. :D

I liked him too, but we simply need to be better. Besides that, Weber wants his #4 jersey...lol (it's true though).

Montador was also seeing 2nd pairing minutes due to injuries/Chris Butler being on the roster. He's a serviceable defensive man no doubt, but he's a 5/6 guy, not a 3/4 guy. He's a great player and did some great things here, but lets face it, he was very expendable with the play of Grags, Weber, and and the addition of R.R.

Couldn't agree more. I hope he finds a place to play though. And now Weber gets his jersey. Signing incentive for him? I think so.

I liked Monty and wish him well where ever he lands. He definitely was one of the funniest guys I've seen on the Sabres in a long time. His part in Stafford's Festivus video is absolutely priceless.

Yeah, we all knew he was gone, but to trade his rights like that? Genius...
