I don't like the Ehrhoff - Leopold pair in our own zone. Great blueline duo on offense though.

Myers - Leopold
Ehrhoff - Regehr
Weber - Sekera (Gragnani)

Quote:
Defenceman Christian Ehrhoff has agreed to terms with the Buffalo Sabres, signing a contract believed to be a 10 year, $40 million deal.

Ehrhoff is a seven-year NHL veteran who is expected to command a raise over the US$3.4 million he made in the final year of his contract last year. He's a puck-moving blue-liner who fits the Sabres system.

Ehrhoff had 14 goals, 36 assists and a plus-19 rating in 79 games for Vancouver last season. He had two goals and 10 assists in the Canucks' run to the Stanley Cup finals, but was a minus-13 while hampered with a nagging shoulder injury.

I mean, this may not be as bad as we think. If it's a front loaded contract, it could actually be a very good move.

EDIT: Actually, I don't think this bad at all. So, my "we" doesn't include me.

I dunno how to feel about that... It's ridiculously long, but the cap hit is great at 4M$ if he keep this up. Wow, I never expected that...

Awaiting confirmation on this, but hearing Ehrhoff's deal in Buffalo is 10 years, $40 million. No clue yet on structure within that.

Assuming its not TOO front loaded, that is an incredible deal.

Why do people think this is an incredible deal. The guy is 38 when his contract expires.

Because, if the contract is front loaded it will be NBD to buy him out at the end, if need be.

Playing until age 38 isn't unheard of, either.

I'm guessing they offered an ultra long contract so they could lower the cap hit. Of course, I'm sure they're aware he's probably gonna suck in the last 4-5 years of the contract. But I guess the point is to be able to get the very best team possible in the next 3-4-5 years thanks to the low cap hit of this contract that will allow them to get more good players. That's the way I see it anyway.

is it unheard of for the cap-hit to be somthing small like 2 or 3 mill for the first year but 5 or 6 in the next few?

possibly darcy planning for a richards deal?

The cap-hit will be 4M for each of the ten years. But he might earn more in the first years and that way, it would lower the price of a buyout later if needed.
