I think its Sekera.

I think Grags was more potential and personally, you can't get rid of Weber. Anyone who grabs Carcillo by the face and throws him to the ice has a spot on my roster.

I'd prefer him a lot more than Richards. That deal would be awesome, but I doubt they'd take it. Maybe if it was Poms instead of Kots

According to WRG we've got 15 in cap space right now, so maybe Ehrhoff + Richards is doable

With Ehrhoff's contract being as front loaded as it is...I don't think we'll have that much money.

WGR is talking right now about the possible league review of the contract being that the first 2 years of the contract pays Christian about $15 of those $40M.

signing bonuses dont get figured into the cap hit, correct?

They do count against the cap as far as I know.

Why are people choosing between Gragnani and Sekera? All Darcy has to do is trade Morrisonn away for a draft pick to any team that needs to meet the cap floor. Sekera's new contract will be less than Morrisonn's 2.075 mil anyway, so we get rid of the worst of the three d-men and also ditch the highest cap hit...win-win.

The front loaded money doesn't matter, the cap hit is averaged out over the life of the contract...so 4 mil per, that's it.

“I was originally going to wait and see what was available on the free agent market,” said Christian Ehrhoff. “After the Sabres acquired my rights and I spoke with Terry Pegula and Darcy Regier, I did my due diligence on the team and I was very impressed. I called some former teammates and others in the NHL who also had great things to say and I was aware that Robyn Regehr had waived his no-trade clause in his contract this week to join the Sabres. My goal is to win the Stanley Cup, and after the offer I received from Buffalo, I believe this is the best place to make it happen.”

From the Sabres.com article

 Terry Pegula does it again!

Can someone please explain to me why they use this high signing bonuses. Is it just the fear of a lockout, so they get guaranteed money.

If we're looking at a defense of Ehrhoff, Regehr, Myers, Leopold, Weber, Sekera, and Gragnani... then all of a sudden Buffalo has one of the better defenses in the league on paper IMO.

Pretty much, the guaranteed money is a difference maker, and the long term security.

I think its that we can move Sekera and get something for him or put him in a package deal. Totally want him on this roster. Maybe it has something to to who not having enough ice time on Grags to see a bad stretch like Reg has skated through.

Yeah I'd rather see Morrisonn gone than Sekera.

Ok. Now I'm waiting for the league to crap on this deal as only teams like the Devils and Flyers are allowed to make these types of deals.

In this case I think it's more a matter of the player not knowing if he'll be able to physically cut it in 10 years, so get the big money now in case you get bought out down the road. For the teams, they do it to bring in talented players, but spread the cap hit over a longer period to reduce the average.

so, we shed 2+ more million and another sport at the wing logjam...what's the problem with that?

it's also the last piece we really need. i'm not above sekera, pominville or kotalik, a first, and a second. i don't mind overpaying a little for him, especially when it saves on age and price from richards and keeps up tight for a couple more years.
