That's a 'I already have my Cup, now I want to get paid' move.

New York Rangers. Where good players go to die.

Can't wait for my roommate's tardfaced Rangers fan boyfriend to say how Richards chose his team over ours (and everyone's). :(

EDIT: I don't mean that like I wish he signed here. This kid is just a doucher who will brag about anything and everything.

I can't blame the Rangers for continuing their plan of signing 30-something year old players that were stars on other teams to multi-year deals. I mean, just look at how well it's worked for them so far.

There. Richards wasn't going to come here anyway. We knew that and didn't want to waste our time, and took the next best option in Leino. Good job, Darcy.

I lost all most all respect for Brad Richards yesterday. Who the fuck does he think he is? Pulled a Lebron James bullshit. Oh come up and court me, and tell me why I should sign with your team, and kiss my ass in a meeting for 45 mins. What a fucking attention whore. Fuck him. You either pick a team, or you don't. He knew all along he wanted to be a Ranger, and could have just signed there at 12:01pm yesterday, but needed to get his ego stroked. What a fucking joke.

I personally didn't really want him in Buffalo, so this isn't a bitter post at all, but it's just a joke that a player who never has scored 30 goals in a season (let alone 40), tries to create this imaginary market due to a weak free agent class. Just kinda classless in my opinion.

He greatly benefited from a very, very weak FA class.

Hell, he's missed the playoffs that last 3 years (You can make an argument it's 4 years, as he was traded to Dallas in '08, and they were already a playoff team, by far)

The Rangers were not a top 6 team in the East yesterday, and I don't think signing Richards changes that...

Yeah? Well we now have one of the best defenses in the league, we also have a decent 2nd/3rd line winger who is on the rise in his career, and a new found moral boost in a new owner/management behavior shift.

It's an arrogance thing. He'll fit in perfectly in NY. :)

To be honest I sort of am. I thought he would have looked at what happened to Drury, Redden, Gabourik etc when they all signed in NY. I thought Chicago would have gone after him, even LA would have been better for him.

With Richards deciding already, it's clear he didn't need any time to seriously consider other options. He was obviously set on NY, and the dog and pony show that went on yesterday wasn't exactly what I expected from him or his agent. I would definitely take him at 6.666 mil per season, but I applaud Buffalo for not getting suckered into that degrading BS process yesterday. They either saw right through it or were told Richards wanted NY, so why bother pandering?

NYR still needs to find some depth at both forward and defense, and this contract won't help. I wonder what they'll do after trying to re-sign Callahan and possibly Dubinsky. No matter though, NY is very dependable for falling short of expectations, but at least Richards got his big stage for Rangers fans to brag about right up until elimination.

Good job Rangers. I wonder how long it will take for the management to hate this deal. I bet after next year they will want to buy him out.

Now there's some drama. I wonder how that first game against Buffalo will go. It's also pretty retarded that he actually got a raise from his last contract. Too funny.
