Yeah. People need to realize he played in Detroit with Datsyuk and Zetterberg in front of him and in Philly with Briere, Carter and Richard in front of him. He was better suited to play wing for both those teams because they already had a bunch of awesome depth at the C position

and in all honesty, I'm not too sure what it would take to get him.....but a name I never hear talked about that I would love to see here is Jordan Staal.

I have to agree Jordan Staal would be a great pickup. I would rather have him over Stastny!

LOL that's funny.

Stastny's father did have things to say last season after the big trades, but he apologized and Colorado has been saying ever since that they are NOT trading Paul. Being as low as they are with salary, trading him would just make it worse anyway. OTOH, I don't think a fair trade player wise, and making other moves to get under the cap with Stastny's 6.6 mil, would leave us with a better team.

Jordan Staal is more of a checking or 2nd center. He's good, but we need a #1/#2 center.

I think it's best to see what Leino can do. Remember, we only had Connolly as a scoring center at the end of the season and playoffs. We should have Roy and now a center that has Connolly's talent plus good playoff stats. That by itself is a big upgrade. Throw in the two big upgrades on defense, Ehrhoff over Butler and Regehr over Morrisonn, and if the team's overall effort stays the same the added talent should make Buffalo a top team in the East.

It was fun to imagine Richards as a Sabre, but we don't need him or any other "top" center to be a legit Cup contender at this point.

Agreed. Anything can. We have a solid looking team. #1 center would have been nice but I guess we will have to stick withh what we've got... Leino could be that diamond in the rough we are looking for. I could even see him getting 1st line mins.

I heard something about Stephen Weiss coming to Buffalo? IS any of that true because aren't Weiss and Roy pretty identical players? That's my observation, so don't go blasting me on this Squanto....

There was talk going back last season that Weiss would be on the block. Now Florida is making a big push to rebuild, and Weiss in central to that, so he's not going anywhere.

Alexander Semin IS on the block. Washington is shopping him big time, but with a 6.7 mil cap hit, even though his contract ends next summer, he'll probably end up going to a bottom rung team that needs to get above the cap floor. Buffalo certainly won't be in the market for him.

Jordan Staal is nothing more then a decent 2nd line center. He's best in the third line Center role. He did have 30 points in 42 games without Malkin and Crosby in front of him, but he is at best a 2nd line Center in the NHL. He will most likely never see first line production in points, even on a first line in the NHL. But If we were to get him as a second line center I would agree to get him.

I love Staal but to prefer him over Stastny is pretty weird.

A possible option i've been thinking of is Dubinsky. I don't know if he really is a first line center or will be as good away from Callahan, but the Rangers signed Richards, have Anisimov, and are likely to desire to keep Callahan over Dubinsky if the Arbitrator give values where the rangers can only keep one. If the rangers have to buy out dubinsky or let him go we could potentially sweep in and pick him up. He's still young, plays a solid two-way game, and has produced points in the playoffs for the rags. He does have good chemistry with Callahan so are his stats inflated, i dunno, but it's an idea.

I've always like Dubinsky. Seems to have a big heart, and great work ethic on the ice.
