And on the topic of uncelebrated, can we get Buffalo Sabres announcer Rick Jeanneret a few more mainstream jobs before he retires? Can he start calling Hockey Night in Canada? Can Versus get him to cover every game ever? Something? Someone get on this before he has an anyeurism from going Sabre-crazy -- he might be the best in the biz right now

Wow! Shocker!

Most Hockey folks think that RJ is an "acquired taste" - Many find him too frenetic in his play-by-play and consider him to be overly dramatic, and a "homer".

I'm pleasantly surprised that there's someone/anyone out there who shares Buffalo's love of Mr. Jeanneret.

My smile for today...

:D

Obviously it would be a great thing and a honor for RJ but I'm glad he's ours and only ours....He is a Buffalo icon!

People always say he sucks, when I've never found another announcer to be as entertaining to the game as RJ.

Listening on the radio is a treat with RJ, you know exactly what is going on.

having Center Ice I get to see every other commentator in the league and have not heard anyone remotely like RJ. There are few good ones out there but most of them are boring. They don't bring the excitement that he brings.

I think most of the RJ hate comes from the fact that he's a huge homer.
If he was more indifferent I bet most people would call him the best in the business today.

It must be really annoying if oppossing fans have to listen to him scream and jump for joy everytime their enemy (Buffalo) gets a goal. A goal against gets you pissed enough.... A sceaming announcer, that is that much more excited for Buffalo can probably rub some people the wrong way.

I love RJ homerism though.... We need an announcer that loves Buffalo as much as we do.
Any replacement in the coming years will never match up. never.
sorry to be so quick to judge but RJ is as big a part of the team as anyone. (At least for the viewer)

Every local announcer is a homer though. That's the beauty and benefit of having local guys.

Would you rather have a guy that likes the team, and knows the team and isn't going to do something stupid like fuck up names or history, or some schlub from VS.?

I always thought the NFL should go to local announcers for teams. I'm sick of hearing Dan Dierdorf or Greg Gumble fuck up some fact because they're morons.

Actually RJ shows almost as much enthusiasm if the other team scores a goal, of course it's not as drawn out, but it is still always full of energy.

I love the old, radio-first and television-second announcers. Those guys are the best.
